XD vs M & P

I have a M&P in 9mm which has been outstanding. Having said that I just laid away a springfield XD in 45 acp. The XD while not having the ergonomics of the M&P is not bad feeling in my hand at all, but the 13 round mags are very comforting. I wanted the 45 acp as my house/truck gun.

Picked up an XD Tactical in 45 ACP this past Tuesday; does have ambidextrous thumb safety. Very nice.

Took it to the range yesterday and ran 100 rounds through it. Was able to keep everything within the black at 20 yards, while doing rapid fire drills. No bobbling, no nothing. It just ran.

In reference to the fears of the trigger breaking, the Sigmas used that same trigger for years now. I don't think they ever had an issue of breaking and they have a much heavier trigger pull than the M&P. I DO prefer the trigger safety of the XD and the GLock. Overall, however, I find the M&P to be a better weapon than both. I liked the grip safety of the XD but the M&P is the best shooting pistol I've ever owned.

Since the M&P was $60 more at my local gunshop, I went with the XD-40 and I have no regrets. I took it out to the range for the first time today, its a shooter!:D The XD's grip frame and my hand = fits like a glove.:)

I have, or have had...

2 XD-9 Sub-compacts
2 XD-40 Service
1 XD-9 Tactical
1 XD-45 Compact
1 XD-45 Tactical

If you can't tell, I really like the XD. I've had various trigger-jobs and drop-in parts, match barrels, sights, etc, etc.

I bought my first M&P (9mm) about a month ago. I changed the sights and had a trigger-job done. After about 3 trips to the range... I ordered an M&P 40 last week! That says a lot, because I love the XD. ;)

I like both but the M&P 40 is the one I own. I like it a lot. I've had zero problems with it and the ergonomics are great. I also really like the changeable grips.

It's no tricked out 1911, but it's not meant to be. It does its job and does it damn well.

Our local police dept is looking to replace their old Smith 5906's and had Smith send them some M&P models for evaluation. They had 3 different guns malfunction to the point of being unusable and had to be returned to S&W with less than 1000 rounds in each gun. I'm not sure if they were 40's or 9mm's but think they were 9mm's because they seem happy with the performance they have been getting from the 5906's. I was really thinking about buying one before I heard about this.

WOW, I'd really like to know which police agency this is. They must have a heck of a torture test.

I know of another law enforcement agency who is testing the M&P 9mm with no breakage at 20,000+ round count.

I looked at both was planning to buy an XDC, but went with the M&PC as
my CCW piece. Just felt so much better in my hand. The other influence was the rebate & two free mags for right at $420 total after transfer & rebate. The guns shoots excellent, no issues with anything I've fed it.

Same here. My PD tried as hard as they could to do a shoot-to-failure drill on an M&P, and they ran out of ammo. They did a pretty intensive battery of testing besides this, as well, and the guns performed admirably. They were in .40, though, and this was a few years back now.

To answer the OP, you really need to shoot both and decide which you like better. I prefer the M&P, but that's me. Most of the differences between the two are subjective (ergonomics, accuracy, pointability, trigger feel). Objectively, both are outstanding guns.

I thought the author of this post wanted to hear from owners who had both?

Anyway, I have both...there is no comparison, M&P hands down. More reliable, FAR better craftsmanship (just compare side by side for yourself), slightly better accuracy, the list goes on and on. Oh by the way...somehow, it's cheaper:what:

I would rank it side by side with the glock. I carry a glock instead, only because I like the feel better (personal preference).

HAHAHAHAHA you crack me up..

His comment is SO BIAS its not worth considering.
