Glock

I've been reading a lot of old TFL threads lately, and it's funny that whenever people say they "like Glock", someone always Says "well I like Sig's", and "I like 1911's".

This is all well and good, and in a way it works to everyone’s advantage, because a good 1911, just about any Sig, and any Glock, is a fine firearm and will serve the owner well.

By even comparing a Glock to a good 1911 you pay the Glock a compliment...

people may speculate on how much it actually costs to put a Glock on the market, and they may complain about the markup, but if you look at it relative to many other manufacturers it's a non issue.

They may not be 'revolutionary' or anywhere near 'perfection, but Glock's are exceptional combat pistols period. The slide/barrel fit is rock solid, they are incredibly easy to understand/shoot, and they last for hundreds of thousands of rounds with minimal parts replacement. Speaking of which, the parts are cheap and can be swapped out with no tools.

How can you go wrong?

Not that I don't appreciate what Glocks are, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion over what gun they like, and even why they don't like some other particular gun.

If I had to take a Glock, I would. They're exceptionally reliable, quite accurate, and will last virtually a lifetime if used properly.

But in terms of spending my money, I'm not entirely keen on spending a wad of cash on a pistol that to me has an awkward grip angle, feels somewhat less substantial than other polymer pistols, and is priced about the same as other high quality pistols in my area. Other people complain about the looks, the polymer construction, or the fact that they're so incredibly common (not neccessarily a bad thing, of course).

Maybe it's just that Glocks, despite their incredible performance records, just don't suit more people than 1911s don't suit people. I personally am not a total 1911 junkie either, I actually prefer older S&W revolvers. :)

Of course, this doesn't explain why everyone feels the need to push their opinions, but a bit of variety never hurt anyone on these boards, either. :D

different strokes for different folks. There are a lot of good choices out there. I have carried sigs, HK's, Beretta's Glocks and now a 1911 and a Smith 442. All will do the job if I do mine. We had the first armed robbery in my area for quite a while. I can tell you one thing I was not thinking of when I was looking for the suspects. The type or caliber of my gun.

It's odd...I love my Glock17....It's my IDPA gun and home defense(downstairs) gun.....but I've heard people saying that they have no"soul"..I have to say I think I agree.....maybe I just haven't had it long enough, but it doesn't have a personality...maybe because they are too reliable....1911's have a personality because they're picky about ammo sometimes...glocks are so reliable they're boring.....you can shoot rocks thru 'em.........what am I saying????I'm not sure......if you want a gun that goes bang every time and is reliable, but plastic and soulless....get a Glock....if I had to choose 1 gun to go into battle with it would be a Glock......when my life is on the line I don't care about"pretty" or "personality"I want a bullet launcher that's %100.......that being said,I DO love guns with personality too...I guess I have room for both...

None of my firearms but one has "soul" or "character". I've always interpreted "soul" and "character" as bad traits when it comes to guns. In fact, I would rather have a firearm without "soul" or "character".

Soul & character = moody and inconsistent in my opinion.

If you are buying a pistol-revolver for CCW or home defence, buy what YOU like and trust. YOU are responsible for the safety and wellbeing of yourself and your loved ones, not some gunstore commando. If it works for you, who cares what someone else thinks? Shoot well and often.
