I voted XD for my friend Bob who died this week. He was a Glock certified armorer and traded in his Glocks for XDs and was very happy with them. I own a Glock that was a present from my wife but I really like the Xds too.

I voted Glock. I liked the way they felt in my hand over the XD. Though I really like the 1911 grips the XD didnt remind me of it at all.

Why werent there any HK pistols or Sig Pro series guns in the poll?

Glock for me.
I have handled the XD, its boxier than the Glock.

Most surprising post in this thread (to me).

The Glocks are fine weapons, but the one thing I always felt when handling any of them are they are "blocky" feeling.

The XD seems to be more ergonomically pleasing to the majority of people that hold them (compared to Glocks).

As for which is a "better" gun....that's another story. And really almost as subjective as what's "boxier".

I was amazed to read another post that said the XD was a "cheap knock-off".

It may be a "knock-off" in the sense it is very much like a Glock, but "Cheap"?

The XD has a more substantial rail, metal triggers and sights, heavier slides (for the most part), and a few features the Glocks don't have.

Glocks have been around longer (obviously), so the designers of the XD had an inherent advantage...they could take what they felt were the best characteristics of the Glock, the Sigs, what-have-you, and develop a gun from scratch with the advantage of 20 years of hindsight looking at the competition.

It's really amazing how emotional people can be about a tool. The Glocks work great, the XDs work great. One's just a bit more "up to date".

The torture test done on the XD should put to rest the one obvious advantage Glocks would seem to have....a proven track record. When the XD was subjected to a 20,000 round torture test and came up perfect, what more can one ask for?

XD would be my choice, for purely subjective reasons. Ergonomics are much better for me personally, and so is the trigger. I like the steel magazines too.

Glocks have that great tennifer finish though. Glocks are fine guns, I just shoot crappy with them.

I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said 'cheap'. It's just that I've noticed some quality control issues with Springfield that don't seem to exist with Glock. How many parts does the XD have vs. the Glock?

If 1911 people had designed the Glock, it would have been exactly like the XD.

If the 1911 had been designed by Glock you wouldn't need to tinker with it to get it to function reliably.

(oh no he didn't):neener:

XD for the grip angle, metal mags, and what the trigger can be with a little tuning. I've shot several glock models over the years and the grip angle points too high for me. The grip angle is a deal-killer; if it doesn't point well, I don't buy it.

The metal mags are a disadvantage in this case as they hold 3 less ammo. The trigger sucks.

This thread is getting pretty funny, especially since the Springfield XD series really has not been around long enough to gain any sort of reputation like the Glock has. I suppose that if an XD-9 were dropped out of a plane at 30,000 feet and did not disintegrate prior to hitting the ground it would be a great handgun? My next purchase will be a two-tone ported XD-40 with night sights. I believe it is the V10 model.

The problem with a thread like this is you could make it Glock vs. Lorcin and some of the self-proclaimed rugged individualists would vote against Glock just because of the strong American tradition of rooting against the popular choice and for the "underdog".

XD's may be fine weapons, but pink fluffly carnations vs. Glock would still pull a fair ratio towards PFC's on THR. There is no more irrationally loathed pistol manufacturer on earth then Glock.
...and if you started a poll, "which is the better battle rifle, m1 garand or glock 17?" you'd have a certain number of people voting for the latter.

you can't remove fanboyism from a poll. it's expected.

Die hard fan of steel guns.
But I like glocks and have shot several of them.
Never have shot an XD, have no experience, so my vote goes to Glock.

If glocks weren't available, I'd probably own, carry and shoot XDs, but fortunately I don't have to.

Which finish lasts longer?

Are you serious? Tennifer....and if'n you're really gonna abuse a Glock, get the Cerakote over the Tennifer. I think that finish could withstand the salt breeze off of the sun.
