Glocks?

My first time at range w/new G23 and am disappointed w/it, but
just about every handgun I have bought I have been disappointed
the first time to the range. With exception of my Kimber 1911.
9/10 I shoot much better second time out and it gets better
from there of course. So tomorrow will give the G23 another try
and will report back. Wife has G17 and I like it so should be no prob.

Luck to you!!

My first time at range w/new G23 and am disappointed...

wayno, just have a better/bit firmer grip on it. Changing calibers need some getting used to. The majority of my Glock experience is with the .40S&W and love it!!! I always have fun shooting .40S&W JHP brand.

My first Glock was a G22 in .40, it sleeps next to my bed. My second was a G19, great feeling/size, added a set of TFO sights, to be used for IPSC. My third is a G30, and it is for carry. I guess I like 'em :D Like my other brands too though...;)

I have owned the following: G19, G21, G22, G27, G34. I have owned and carried my G19 for the past 13 years. It has seen all climates, saltwater, freshwater, dirt and grime, it has come unholstered and skidded across an ashphalt parking lot during a foot chase(only receiving 2 dimples in the frame and a knocked off rear plastic sight in the process), and I have put 8,000-10,000 rounds through it with only 1 malfunction that I can recall (not to make excuses, but I was using frangible rounds and several of us had failures to extract with them). I have stoned and polished the internals, added a piece of rubber innertube to the grip, and replaced the mag springs with Wolff + power springs. Other than that, it is box stock. The list of repairs is short: new rear sight after the parking lot incident and a new recoil spring last week.
I am pretty happy with Glocks.

I am quite pleased with the G32 (.357sig). 13 rounds in a standard sized magazine, best weight-to-capacity ratio of all the polymer pistols in its price-class (for the .357sig), accurate as the day is long and a very flat shooter. :)

Oh, and a breeze to clean.

I am not a fan of the Glock guns, I traded the only one I ever owned (G23) for an XD. I now have a few XD's. Glocks are good guns but they just don't feel good in my hand. Buy what ever fits you the best.

in response to the "what for?", I'll be using as a concealed carry.

does no one have anything negative to say about them? I'm sure there must be someone with a strong dislike for the things.

It almost sounds like you want someone to say something negative about them. The only complaints that someone could make is that they do not personally like the grip angle or that they personally feel like the safe action trigger isn't safe. Some could say that they are ugly, and others could say that they don't like the thick grips. All of which would be completely subjective.

No, there is no objectionable quality to Glocks. They are reliable, affordable, and accurate.

The G19 is my favorite all-around 9mm carry option.
The G34 is my favorite 9mm range/target/competition gun.

I own a 2nd Gen G19 and will one day buy a G34. Great guns!

What is there not to like about them? The Tennifer finish is tough. The barrels are accurate, the safeties are built thru the trigger and pull, the "plastic" frame is indestructable and the magazines work.

I have a medium sized hand(s) and have no trouble shooting and hitting my target-need more shooting time though, 38 below presently-too cold for me and suspect it is too cold for my Glock as well.

I have longed for one now for some 3 yrs. and now own a G20, have the 6" hunting bbl. from KKM and now awaiting to do more when LoneWolf gets in their new longslides in this month.

I have kept it simple thus far and shoot 15 rounds a day(200 grn. XTP & 800X) to develop my skills with my new "companion" and see for myself if and when a problem arises. I look foward to yrs. of "faultless" shooting.

For the money you cannot beat the reliability and accuracies of the GLOCK.

They're great. I own 2, have had a 3rd and nothing bad to say. I've been carrying a Glock21 for 15 years.

if your going to shoot +p+ loads ,check out the c models.i have fired them in very low light and it does not affect your vision.

I own multiple Glocks. I think that both the g17 and g19 are classics. If you plan on carrying it, the 19 will conceal easier due to the shorter grip. If you aren't going to conceal it, it would be a tough call based solely on what feels best and shoots best for you.

Hey bigred82!!!!!!!

Those are first design Winchester Black Talons in the top pic, right? Six petals instead of eight.

I've been known to carry them in my G34 a time or two....

I have a Glock 17 and could not be happier I bought it. It's so boringly reliable and accurate. And it's very easy to shoot fast too. I plan on completing my 9mm Glock collection with the 26, 19 and 18 in the future :D

Some people say they're ugly, but come on...you must look at the "functional beauty" :D (and I personally think they really look good actually)

Dragonboy, What else have you looked at? What have you tried? I don't think you should make this decision based on NO research or even asking people if they are any good. For many people they are, for me they aren't.

I hate Glocks and yet I know people who love them.

I'd suggest you try and M&P or an XD and do some comparison.

What's best for one person isn't always best for everyone.

Inexpensive "hi-cap" mags.
Plentiful mags.
Inexpensive parts.
Generally plentiful parts.
Many accessories.
They just work.
Easy to work on according to WECSOG.
.22 conversion kits - no so plentiful.
Good warranty/CS if necessary.
Lib's hate 'em.
Hold their value, yet are inexpensive to acquire.
You don't have to clean them - not really, but I don't very often.
You can pronouce it G-Lock for uber coolness.

Con's: Dunno, it fat and IMHO more difficult to conceal.

Simply the best

Both are good. 17 is a bit larger then 19. Variety of mag sizes available from 15 to 31. So go ahead. You wont regret it.

My first gun was a G17. The considerations that went into my selection were, in no particular order:

- Reliability
- Accuracy
- Durability
- Ease of maintenance
- Price
- Capacity
- Weight
- Useful for self-defense and competition
- Wrath of the antis

The G17 has not disappointed in any of these qualities (though really I haven't had to use it in self-defense yet). I did not consider concealability because we in Illinoisistan aren't allowed to carry.

My recommendation is to get the G19. You won't be sorry.
