Good 9mm handgun that can "do it all"?

I've owned a few 9mm handguns over the years. My all-time favorite is the S&W M&P9C. It truly does it all. Accurate for range work. Compact enough for carry, but still has a 12+1 capacity. Reliable and not at all choosy about ammo. I've run some REALLY marginal stuff through it with no problems.

Im surprised no one has said the witness. (the cz 75 clone). ive put over 1000 rounds through mine with 1 or 2 failures and that was from the out of spec ammo i was putting through it. Only problem is i dont think the gun is broke in yet (did i mention that wonder finish is tough as nails).

Another vote for the Glock 19. It is an awesome gun at a great price. I don't think anyone has ever worn one out.

I don't buy anything plastic . . . ehhhh disgusting. Only 9 I will ever own is my custom HP. It does everything it was designed to do and can shot better them me. I know it was designed in 1935 by why change perfection.

Thank you to everyone who replied, just thought I'd stop in and let you all know that I am now the proud owner of a new Glock 19! I went to get it this morning and picked one up with night sights. I'm pretty happy about it and can't wait to go shoot it. One question I had, is there any particular type of solvent/oil that is best for cleaning it? Also, is it bad that I still kind of want an xD as well?:D

If you want all steel then the CZ75B, If weight is factor Glock. I like the 17 better than 19 but there both great.

Glock 19, definitely.

Carry it with 15 round mag.

Come home and pop in 33 round mag and laser/light combo for home defense.

Put a Mech Tech conversion on it for long distance shooting. http://www.mechtechsys.com/

Put a .22lr conversion on it just for plinking. http://www.advantagearms.com/conversion_kit.html

If you are REALLY worried about pulling a Plaxico, there's always the Saf T Blok. http://www.ajaxgrips.com/ajax/saftblok

And, god forbid you really need money and need to sell it, it will go in a flash.

Sig

...

Have to agree with this..

Besides Sigs accuracy, straight out of the box, you get their easy, painless, fool proof, take down (disassembly) simplicity, and ease, for easy inspections, cleanings, reassembly. One of, if not, the easiest out there, bar none.

And, with DA/SA hammered gun, and Sigs triggers that just get better and better with each shot, you always have a second strike capability over any striker-only type weapon that with any misfire, you'd have to cycle out the non-fired bullet vs the hammered Sig/gun being able to pull the trigger again, quickly and "sometimes" get a light strike to, then, fire.

I also like the Sigs frame mounted decocker only, as well, which is handy if, one chooses to thumb-cock the hammer into SA mode and if, by choice, the SA shot is not needed, after all, one can simply, quickly, decock the hammer back into DA mode without sacrificing one's good/proper 2-hand grip.

Luck, and enjoy whichever gun you select as your first gun.. there are many out there to be had..

I use Hoppe's #9, Break Free CLP & Break Free LP. Once the #9 runs out, I'll try the Hoppe's Elite.

Congrats on the G19. You'll love it!
