Good high power target pistol ?

Hi guys,
I just started target shooting ,now that I am retired. I been shooting a ruger 22 mark 111--love it. -but I now want to up it.
I bought a new taurus 357 mag. # 66SS last month it was great until I put a new rem. 357 bullet in it and the first shot---BANG--- the gun blew up. I now want to down size. No more 357s for me. Looking to spend $400 to $800. I donot want a scope on the gun.

Get a nice 1911 with adjustable sights. Dan Wesson, STI Spartan, etc...

If you tried .357's you evidently like revolvers.........please try a long since discontinued Smith model 14, 38 Special also known the Target Masterpiece.

Today's Pistol Shooters

I find the lack of response telling about this thread as an indicator of today's interest in pistol shooting. As in a lack of a substinative interest in "target" or bullseye pistol shooting. I consider bullseye shooting a fine art. Seems the interest of the vast majority of pistoleros today is all about conceal/carry, cheap made polymers, and "tactical".

Just seems sad in a way. There's hardly anything I enjoy more than taking 2 or 3 finely crafted target pistols to the range for a lengthy bullseye session with some buddies.

I love to target shoot. 5 shots at a time, slow and steady. 21 feet to 100 feet.

Dan wesson make a good .45. ALso, the high power has been recommended. I saw on in the shop the other day used for $650. Some people like the CZs too. Heavy frame.

Well, it's gonna be hard to get a centerfire pistol that's really bullseye worthy for the price mentioned. You can get a lot of very accurate production guns for that price, but if you're shooting against people w/ Clark Customs or Les Baers or Rock Rivers, you'll be at a disadvantage.

12many probably has the right idea. CZ's or CZ clones will probably get you the most accuracy for your dollar. A 75b SA w/ some trigger work and competition sights should fall under eight bills. My SP-01's a real tack-driver.

Take a look at the Kimber Custom Target II. I've got one, and its very accurate (I've gotten hooked on shooting it at 50 yards and the only problems with accuracy are user-related) The target sights are great, too. I got mine from Able Ammo for $750.

I can't recommend it relative to anything else as I do not own anything else, but I'm very satisfied with it. I haven't experienced any of the issues brought up with Kimbers by a lot of people on this and other gun boards. Just another option to look at.

I'll second that. A friend of mine has one in .40. The stock trigger's no slouch, but with the $60 trigger work he had done, its amazing. He can keep all his shots on an IDPA silhouette at 50 yards. He hasn't had much time to practice, so it would be safe to assume its capable of much tighter groups. They're really nice guns, and they cost a good bit less than their quality is worth.
