May he RIP. The world is demished by his passing. Blem thank you for being a friend to him even when you had to do what was right. (often harder then ignoring it)

My parents just attended the funeral of a hero from the area where my mom grew up. Battlefield commission to lieutenant, bronze star for personally leading a rescue mission to retrieve wounded men who were exposed to enemy fire on a pacific island. He never talked about it. Came back from the war, went back to his farm and kept raising herefords. As a little girl, my mom helped out on his farm. The kind of upstanding man where everyone in several counties knew of him. Standing room only at his funeral. His son didn't even know what he had done until recently.

We're at a point in history where all of the events of WWII are changing from memories to history. If any of you know old veterans, it's worth a try to hear their stories. Support any collection efforts to gather these stories.

Sorry to hear that Joe is gone, and I'm glad his last days were happy ones.

Thank you Joe for your service and sacrifice for the "free world's freedom" that isn't free. To you Beau, good friends are hard to come by and you were/are a good friend. To all, if you want a good friend, you yourself have to be a good friend. God Bless America and God Bless you all.

I'll Be At The Range Tomorrow

Your "Joe" will join the list of men I will salute there.

beaucoup ammo, thanks for your kindness.

Dignity at the final sunset is beyond price.

My own father would be 91 now, another of the "greatest generation." This thread made me think of him with a smile. Tell him I still miss him, Joe. Thank you for your service, and rest in peace. God knows you've earned it.

Beaucoup ammo, you're quite a guy.

My next trip to the range I will give my own personal 21 gun salute. The first 21 are dedicated to you. R.I.P. Joe and Thank You.

P.S. we need a salute smilie.

beaucomp ammo - I remember that thread. Thank you for helping Joe enjoy one of the few pleasures he had in life. Thank you and RIP, Joe.

Beaucoup,

I've followed your story since you made your first post, so I feel like I have been there with the two of you.

You did an outstanding job and I commend you highly for taking time with Joe. I'm sure your interest and discussion with him contributed to his enjoyment of his remaining days.

Joe symbolizes the loss of our greatest generation. Every day the men and women who always rose to the occasion during our World War events pass away. For every story like Joe's, there are other stories of Veterans that die without having friends that care like Beaucoup.

Joe's death should serve as a reminder for everyone to extend a hand to a veteran you know and go the extra mile for them.

Somehow the way he died was very fitting. "Band of Brothers," indeed.

You did good Beaucoup. Rest in peace, Joe.

John

I can only ditto all thats been said. We ALL need to thank our veterans by personally talking to them. Joe, RIP and Beau, you are to commended.
