Basic training will be a memorable time in your life! You will make good friends and you will become proud to have joined. I still remember and look back with pride and fondly remember my time at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri during winter. Basic training is a bond that all military people have in common. Good Luck troop.

Oh and by the way . . . . your recruiter lied to you!!:neener:

Take Care.:D

Benning in summer is actually fun. wheni was there this summer, only been out for a month, the average temp at 6 am was 70 degrees with 70-80 percent humidity. by 1030 it was usually heat category 5, ie 98degrees plus and 85plus percent humidity.
do not go with anykidn of long hair, cut it down conservatively. trust me, youll see enough of the "ugly chicks" in the 30th AG BN soon enough. and when they get "smart" with you, just ask your biggest ugliest looking battle buddy the infamous
"hey, dont he have purty lips?"
shuts everyone up if they have a feminine hairstyle. the DS dont really care, and when your in the DFAC or johnston hall, STAY OFF THE WALL.

sadly you wont get the 2/47th INF RGT for your training company, as far as i could ever learn they were 9 week only training terms.

Practice reading off your chest insignia at long range aspossible. that screws people up. for some reason the acu pattern really screws with the chest patch. it like adds lines, ie a e5 patch looks like an e6 or 7.

keep that camelbak full at all times. DS will make you start drinking when they see someone has gone empty, and then everybody gets to learn through the use of CT that you need to keep it full.
and hope you have a good intestinal system, the water buffaloes are all full of algae and nice and warm. when the day is done, that chalky poweraide in the dfac really becomes the highpoint of your day.
never eat the cake or cookies, thats suicide.

oh yeah have fun, and you will be getting sick about 10hours after you get vaccinations. the drugs themselvs do screw with your system, but the problem is that the shot guy, specialist something or other has the guys in sick call assemble syringes. ive spent many times doing so while on sick call.
and waxing the bay will take all night ot do it correctly. expect 2-3 coats on the walking area, and 4-5 on the kill zones. and that will mean bunks an wall lockers get moved around so the whole floor gets waxed.
you will find old letters and stuff. remember keep hatpins, they are 15.50 EACH if you have to buy one at the Post Exchanges.

Hey everyone. I just graduated basic and i'm on family day pass. But tomorow its back to the CTA for 5 more weeks of infantry training. :(. I've learned a lot and now apreciate the simpler things in life. BTW 30th AG was the worst experience of my life.

Congrats! I remember graduatin from Basic and feeling like I actually accomplished something, whereas graduating from High school was pretty meaningless to me.

Indeed, good luck in future and stay safe. :)

Hey Soldier,
Congratulations! Enjoy your time off while you've got it. Keep soaking up as much as you can, remember a lot of this stuff could take or save a life to the benefit of you and your battle buddies. On a side note, I agree with your comment RE 30th AG. I would have had to stay two more weeks if I didn't have my gear ready to run when they said they needed to fill 5 buses.

Welcome, nice to have another brother in arms in the fight. Take care of yourself and if you have any questions let me know.

I hope you know we have the internet in the military now, it was part of the modernization,,lol.

Things will slow down after a few months of newguy adventure and you can check back and update everybody.

Always remember you volunteered for it, so make the most of it. Even the crappy parts are good for funny stories later and the friendships last a lifetime.

I must say goodbye to all my fellow THRders thank your for the years of entainment and for the knowledge you have given me. I officially swore into the US Army on monday as an 11x infantryman. I will be leaving on the 21st so wish me luck and keep me in your prayers.
that dosen't mean that you have to stop droping by thr, even during a deployment you will be able to get to the internet cafes and write threads and post stuff. i have been a member of thr only while in the army, i have no problems coming on and giving my .02cents

Good luck. Train hard and stay safe. You signed up for an adventure of a lifetime. Some of my fondest memories are my days in the Army. When you're at your permanent duty station try to sign up for as much extra schooling and training as possible.;) "FOLLOW ME!"

You do know they have computers with internet in the military right?

And that you'll probably have your own lappy in your barracks.
