i got a Charles daly 1911 and a kimber 22lr conversion with 3 mags for each for 700 today. just wondering how i did and if anyone can educate me on things to look out for with the charles daly?

WHAT?! I am almost unwilling to believe the price on that one. Doesn't sound right...

But in any case, I'd recommend you look up something like "1911 maintenance" in the search function.

Charles Daly has gone out of business. They never built any of their firearms, they were an importer.

Armscor made the Charles Daly 1911's. They are the same company that makes the Rock Island Armory (RIA) 1911's and a couple of other Philippine made 1911's.

The RIA 1911's have a very good reputation on the various forums.

Hate to be the break it to you but you paid about $200 more than it is worth. CD 1911s were made by Armscor until about 2010. IIRC they did this because RIA was killing them. They attempted to have Magnum Research make their new ones but the deal fell through IIRC.

A NIB RIA runs about $400 for the tactical version. The Kimber kit sells for $300 so basically you paid NIB pricing for a unsupported used pistol with a few extra mags.

IMHO that package assuming LNIB condition is worth $500.

Hopefully it runs for you good luck.

The guy paid too much but at least around this time last year ARMSCOR was still honoring the warranty on Charles Daly pistols: http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/index.php/t-531341.html

A quick call to ARMSCOR in Nevada should confirm if they still are. I would be surprised if they are not, the current Citdadel-marked pistol is nothing more then a late-production Charles Daly with a different rollmark.

I have one. Great gun and I think you did OK. Mine has never failed yet and the finish is nicer on that than on my RIA. Also the RIA has been back to the factory and never a problem with the CD. It may have been made by RIA but I think they are a better gun. I have the EFS and that is the same as the RIA tactical which has the novac style sights. If I had the chance for another CD like I have I would take that over the Rock Island Armory one anyday.

Like every one say you over paid on this deal. The CD a friend of my has is a nice pistol and shoots well but still fact its. No longer made and was still just a Armscore under different name .
You have it now shoot it and enjoy it and don't think about the deal We have all at one time or another over paid . I bought a Para once a 1 dollar would have been overpaying on that pistol.

if he is happy with it who cares that he payed too much, or did he really pay too much if he is indeed pleased?............

+1 possum. I "overpayed" for several guns and I've even done trades where I lost money big time but in the end I had what I wanted to the dollars spent weren't the issue. I traded a SigP220 for a Springfield XD 45 which I then sold to buy a American Classic II. Basically I went from a $800 gun to a $500 gun but I couldn't be happier.
