I received my FV today! I really like the way it feels and balances for me. The stock is synthetic, but it's actually not as bad as you guys say it is. I mean there are mold lines and the fit to the grip cap isn't stellar, but it's pretty tough and durable. I'm a steel and wood guy, and this is my first synthetic firearm. With the heavy barrel it is muzzle heavy, but not a lot. The bolt is stiff and doesn't slide back and forth due to gravity alone, but it's a new gun so cycling the action will fix that and it has. The safety is stiff when taking it off, does that loosen up too?

I checked the crown and it's a recessed target crown, and looks good. Bluing is good! Barrel is free floated, scope bases are on straight. I like the Savage indian head logo on the grip cap and buttplate, it's a nice touch.

And the Accu-Trigger.. tried a empty casing and dry-fired it..I'm converted to Savage triggers immediately. Factory pull weight is like... <1 lb.. it's nuts! You just move your finger a tiny bit and the trigger goes off after depressing the blade. WIN!

Magazine slides in and snaps positively. Mag slides out easily by just pressing the release lever. It fed the round in perfectly for the 5-6 times I tried it.

Swivel studs are there, bottom metal seems decent, probably not a big deal for a synthetic stock. Barrel rollstamps and serial are engraved sharply and straight.

Ok... so scope time! I'm thinking of the Nikon BDC Rimfire 3-9x40. What type of rings do I need?

Also, the low comb doesn't seem like a big deal.. and if I need a cheek riser that's an easy addition.

Sweet! I just got a new FV a few weeks ago. I'm very happy with it. I wanted a target rifle so I put a Mueller 8-32X44mm scope on it. I also bought some Wolf Match Target ammo. My first trip to the range I shot a 10 shot group at 50 yards that measured less than half an inch! I'm very happy with it. I am going to put a cheek rest on it. I have some thick Kydex to make one with.

I did have trouble with the scope bases that came with the rifle. My Leupold rings would fit. I ended up buying a rail from EGW. The rings work fine on it.

What height rings did you use? I'll probably go for a rail as well.

What's a good magnification for hunting, plinking, paper targets, and varmints?

I have the bv version of your rifle. I also have a 44mm scope and high rings are needed atleast with weaver. Myscope is a 6-24 30mm .

Hunting scope. 4-14 works well for head shoots and I use the same ammo for target work. wolf/sk or better. No speedy hp bullets reallt needed. For a dollar smart scope the centerpoint 4-14 scope at walmart will do well. Low power works for up close hunting still fun at the range with enough power to shoot small groups . Rrice is right on them also and come with rings, or use to. If you are willing to spend a bit more money Muller apt series makes a scope many .22 shooters use and like. there 4.5-14 will also focus down to 10 yards.

Also, the low comb doesn't seem like a big deal.. and if I need a cheek riser that's an easy addition.

The low comb is why that factory stock is such a POS; you will likely need a riser or stock pack to use a scope, even if you use low rings. I have an FV-SR and have a Weaver 3-10x40 in medium Burris Signature Zee rings on the factory EGW 0 MOA rail, and there was no possible way for me to get a comfortable, repeatable cheek weld. My solution was a Boyd Tacticool stock.

I've got a 93R17 FSS with the same synthetic stock as the MkII FV, and have the same cheek weld issues I had with the FV-SR stock. if I keep the rifle, my plan is to replace it with a Boyd Rimfire Thumbhole stock.

With the EGW rail can you still single load rounds into the chamber? Are there ejection issues with the case hitting the mount? The DIP has the cutout.

Btw, does the FV-SR come with the EGW rail or is it their own OEM part?

My FV, I put a DIP cheek riser, and I'm still fiddling with LOP, but I think I've got that figured out with a recoil pad.

The bottom of the fore-end is too round for good stability on a bag, but for position use, it is fine (if a bit narrow). It is a little bit flexible, but that also has potential fixes.

I put Burris Medium Signature Zee rings on mine. Was a bit of a struggle to get them on the bases, though. 3x9x40 scope is fine for some things, but I'm starting to think I need a bit more magnification to do some of the target work I'm interested in playing with, so it may get a more target-grade scope in the future.

The FV-SR comes with the 0 MOA EGW rail; wish it were the 20 MOA but Signature Zee rings with inserts get me to the same result.

Single-loading rounds is a bit of a PITA, but doable; I have not had any ejection issues.

With a 20 MOA rail, it states that it's for 600-1000 yards. Obviously the 22 lr doesn't shoot that far, so why choose the 20 MOA vs a 0 MOA rail?
