Savage Mark II FV review.

I have been feeding my Savage a steady dies of CCI Standard Velocity rounds. Seems like the tooth brush and Hoppe's #9 has mostly done the trick. Last time out it hung up once after a hundred or so rounds. Here, the problem was not keeping the gun clean. On chronic stuff I'd suggest calling Savage. They have treated me well resolving problems and getting the right parts for project guns.

Tensioning the spring clip does help periodically, but I shoot it suppressed and it gets dirty fast and I'm having to clean it quite often to keep it extracting. I get it to work but when I'm faced with taking it or my CZ out the Savage ends up staying in the safe.

I had threatened to do this thing in an earlier post. The spring clip can be ordered at the same time as extra magazines. The first rifle picked to shoot is the one. Be it CZ or Savage the first is the star of the day. The other stays in the case. One thing for sure about Savage's. Savage has a world more haters than CZ.

I have a Savage Mark II BSEV, restocked in a Boyd’s Provarmint as my 22LR precision rifle trainer, and NRL22 match rifle, and bought a Savage Mark II FSS for my son, which also found a new home in a Boyd’s Provarmint stock. I posted groups from the “Prove It” thread from my BSEV, and the FSS is as accurate. The BSEV is an FVSS with a spiral fluted barrel and a Boyd’s Evolution (barricuda) stock. The FSS is the FVSS but with a light barrel.

Anschutz, Voodoo, or CZ I expect to be more accurate out of the box, but also cost considerably more.

My CZ 452 was less expensive than the BSEV list price. The Savage came used as did the CZ. Both rifles give excellent performance. I'd give a slight edge to the CZ. There rifles are polar opposites style wise. Fun to shoot tacks at fifty yard with either. Both are good rifles. Great recreation. Based on my experience and of those who shoot with me these Savages are no slouches. The pond is kinda muddied up by the army of Savage haters.

The Savages do shoot well that is for sure, just wish they would improve on a few things and they would have a real winner.

Extractor would be my top improvement. But yes mag latch and well could use improvement as well.
