Going down to range tommorrow to work up a target load for my little Traditions Crockette .32 rifle. Just wanted to see what the rest of you all
use. I'll be trying FFF and FF . I'll use "0" Buck .323 for the ball and .010
patching. For a made in Spain the barrel looks very nice. These little Crockett
rifles just look nice. Will give a range report later.

Loading larger powder charges is usually better for hunting varmints and a good accurate round ball load is usually between 20 -30 grains.
The more powder loaded, the more fouling there will be as a result.

I came across these posts on MLF:

Here are some loads and velocities from a .32 TC Cherokee:

10 grains FFFg 1120 FPS equals standard .22 long rifle round
20 grains FFFg 1650 FPS
30 grains FFFg 1870 FPS

My manual advises 20-35gr. max. so I'm hanging at twenty, figure I'll go thru all the patch/ball combos, then go up/down 5 gr. to find the magic bullet so those paper plates are dead meat.

One thing about a Crockett .32 they are a little harder to clean. Every time I pull the barrel (pop the pin and remove the tang screw), the hammer spring comes lose. It is made thinner because the whole gun is on such a light frame. I use channel locks and a pair of pliers to put it back together. It is such a sweet shooter that I put up with it.

Goex fouls more than 777 and firing 777 after Goex cleans some of the crud out.

One of my 32s gave good accuracy with a PRB over 16 grains of powder. For a hunting load it worked well with 32 grains of powder. I was able to make one measure, 16 grains volume, and use it for both loads. This is the only rifle I owned that the charges worked out that way.

I don't know what size bore you have but .323 sounds a bit tight for a 32. I prefer a looser fit and a heavier patch. Good luck.

And The Winner Is

Tired, just got back from shooting all day. The best group 1 1/2 inches at
50 yds was shot with FF Charge 40 grs. "0" buck ball and .015 Teflon patch
Going to get something to eat now. ZZzzzzzz

I may

have to beat him with the stick if he keeps killin my Rats :D

I sure like those Crocket .32's , nice lines for an inexpensive rifle . Heavilly inlayed it would sure look sweet too , along the lines of the fancy Penns or Kentuck's :D Ummmmm , yes indeed .

Bunnies

Das,

you could teach me to inlay.

Or, we could go bunny hunting. If I wound them with the .32, you could back me up when they charge with your Buffalo 44.

Or, if you wound em with the .44 I could back you up with - whatever.

:what:

Wound ?

I only permantly wound anything , hee hee hee . :D
I am thinkin the .44 is a way bit over kill for Bunnies :D
Headshots would be ok with it , and it would self clean them for ya :what:
I think your right on the money with the .32's , or even a .36 .
Back-up you say ? Hmmmm , I always hunt alone , Im'e funny that way . I like to fish alone too .
I will tollerate going shooting at the range with certain people , but they gots to be mighty special :D
And yes , I could teach you to inlay , the basics , the tallent only God gives ya that . And he didn't give me a massive amount of Inlay tallent either ....I be a grasshopper on that art so far with Metal inlays. Wood inlay , I am good at that , but metal , just learnin .

Bunnies

I went bunny hunting this morning. Wet, I had to go to a second cap to clear the load. No bunnys (did see 2 does - Tempted to try the .32 but I figure they might take my dog away if I did that). If it quits raining I may try some more later.

:scrutiny:

PS Do you know if it's legal to use those plastic rings (That are cut from small diameter plastic fuel lines) for small game? I have herd that it is illegal for BP deer but I don't see a problem for rabbits and grouse.

Jaeger, screamin in pain , wish I had Heroin and not Vicadin .

The symptoms may subside a bit in a few days once the antibiotics kick in. Been down that road a number of times myself. I feel yer pain my friend. Had a hole drilled in the back of an absessed tooth once. The infection was under pressure inside my tooth. That brought a lot of relief for me on that occasion. With the antibiotics and that... I actually went a number of years before that tooth finally had to be pulled.

Sounds like fun

Holes drilled in teeth , pylo puss runnin out , mmm , tastey .

It's the missed work that tis the pain . My benefit package goes like this " No Workee , No payee " , have a nice day ...........And here I just put a C-Note in my safe the other day thinking I was making the BP gunthing grow ? HA !

Actually... the uglies sprayed out across the room, under pressure. No wonder I was in so much pain before going to the ER.

I unnerstan'. It sucks when stuff gets in the way of life. :D

I like that in you ,

at least you have the correct perspective on life :)
Jobs are not important , and rarely fun .
My Ideal job would be hunting and fishing then I suppose , and the pay is great , Solitude .
Jobs are survival , guns are life , and bows, and fishing poles and reels , etc , knives, the good stuff :D , The rest tis mearly survival , money , blah blah blah .

Yup... work makes life happen. I spent too many years just workin'. Been tryin' to be sure to get some livin' in the mix too over the last decade. For seven years... it was ridin'... 147,000 miles on the bike. This year... haven't even put the key into the bike. LOL Now... it's archery and BP... and some modern guns too.
