Here's the update and review:

Rifle functioned flawlessly with no malfunctions, I used 150gr American Eagle and 150 WWB 7.62x51 for a total of 60 shots

Rifle was sighted in at a 50 yard "battle" zero (should make hits out to 300 yards)

Millett DMS-1 scope and rings held zero after being sighted in, Magpul PMAG 7.62x51 cycled perfect, and the biggest rave is the PWS Compensator. It reduced felt recoil I'd say between 30-35% (still loud as hell though )

Overall, for a budget AR10 carbine, the DPMS Sportical can't be beat. It's accurate and functional without the dust cover and forward assist. Now if you live in a desert-type area then it may not be the gun for you due to having no dust cover but here in Texas it'll be fine.

Anyone who has an AR10 I would like to say the PWS compensator is a must have for threaded barrels.

Wow you should send that to me so I can try it. That is a nice set up. I think I will be looking for one after I get a hunting rifle set up in 308 that way they are same same.

very nice.

Ok I got a question, does eliminating the dust cover REALLY save DPMS that much $$$? I mean seriously.

Whats up with that?

How much do you have into it now excluding optics

Magpul ACS + Bravo Mil-Spec buffer tube = $160
Magpul MOE Handguard = $30
Magpul PMAG 7.62x51 = $20 ea
PWS Compensator = $99
Hogue AR15 Grip + $15
CAA Single Point Adapter = $30
BlackHawk Single Point bungee sling = $25

Saved on shipping, got most of these items at the same place:

Thanks Ed for the update and pricing. I guess you shopped around a bit prior to purchasing. With the initial price and updating do you feel the DPMS from Nelson was a "best buy"?

What would your next choice have been?

Is DPMS the best value these days in .308?

It appears with the glass, your skills and the rifle as configured it will definitely do everything I am interested in.

Anything you would do differently now that you have had a chance to evaluate?

What is the downside/upside to a dust cover?

What is a forward assist.

I'm new to the AR business in case you can't tell, but I am about ready to make the investment in a .308.

Yes, it was the best price I could find and they had free shipping as well, can't beat that.

What would your next choice have been?

I think maybe the DPMS AP4 .308, differences are a front sight post, dust cover, forward assist, and a lower picatinny scope rail. Also about $350 more.

For an AR10 style? Yes for sure.

Nothing at all, I am happy with the whole set-up

What is the downside/upside to a dust cover?

If you live in a dusty or sandy area then you may want a dust cover, but other than that I don't see much use for it other than aesthetics

What is a forward assist.

Pictured below, its the rear thumb plunger below the charging handle to assist rounds that have not fully chambered ( I think...at least that's what I use them for) I can count on one hand how many times I have actually used it in using an AR15.

nice looking set up. The sling is a good one, but i have had issues with it. I have the same one on my work gun, and i have been using an MI single point mount on my m4. the sharp edges of the mash clip shave away at the mount and eventually it will break. i am glad that the mount that i have has a loop for it on both sides. until i can get my other one point set form the states, i am running the sling on the left side of the gun, i am right handed. the sling didn't wear it down enough to break through for about 6 months of use. It survived NTC, The field, and the first 4 months of this deployment. just wanted to make you aware.

Ed another question please. Can the high rail for the optics fore and aft be removed and allow for lower ones to be installed if necessary?

No its a permanent riser, but you can to as I did and use low scope rings to mount your choice of optic.

I have been eying a DPMS for a while. Seems like the best bang for the buck for sure. Looks like yours shoots well. Enjoy the thing and know I am envious.
