Pricing one of these. Been on the lookout for a 3” wiley clapp for the last few years. No luck. Found a new match champion for a few hundred less than msrp.

I have heard that firing .40 even with moonclips is iffy. Have a 610 and it’s flawless shooting .40

Any first hand experience?

Ok i lied. I bought it and then I started reading about the .40 issues (failure to detonate, and pierced primers). Looking at the firing pin, doesn’t seem to be overly large….also not worried about backflow due to pierced primers while shooting 4 grains of green dot over 170 gr. pills.

Never have liked hogue grips on gp100’s. Quickly switched them out!!!

Regarding the Hogue wooden grips that are standard with the MC,
I like them because they position my trigger finger naturally for
a straight pull back in double action, which is how I always fire
a DA revolver. The Lett/Altamont grips with wood inserts are
very good but position my trigger finger higher, giving me less
leverage on the trigger.

Hogue also makes a rubber grip that mimics the wood style
on the MC.

The MC Hogue wood model and rubber model that mimics it
are thinner and more to my liking than any standard finger grooved
Hogue.

I have a set of the fingerless hogues that come on the .44 special. I have xl hands and the letts are just fine in da.

Wood and extended range sessions don’t mix for my old wrinkly hands.

Should be no issue with shooting .40S&W ammo as long as you use moonclips. Then it's basically the same thing as shooting .38Spl in a .357Mag.

Trying to shoot .40S&W without the clips would be a bad idea--if you could even make it work.

I've always liked the old Lett grips put the compact version from Altamont on my 10mm match champ.
Also the Rimz moon clips for a Smith 646 work perfectly
',they're IMHO the easiest moon clips to use. Here's an article
Guess I’ll get some of the rimz, and perhaps some of the .050’s from tk.

Guess I can always load up reduced load 10’s, don’t want to burn through large pistol primers though lol.

Think most of my .40 brass is speer, can’t remember if speer or federal is the issue, guess they’re the same company

I've had a 10mm MC for about 3 years now, but have not tried any .40 in it. No misfires though with any factory or reloaded 10mm ammo. The factory wood grips fit me just fine, but I needed a little give in the grips when firing some of the more energetic 10mm ammo. After trying some of the Hogues, I settled on a regular factory GP100 type.

Got some of my goods in the mail and I am a happy camper.

Ruger should ship the gun with the .050 moonclips and not the weak ass ones they send.

Guess most people may not intend on shooting the gun exclusively with the clips….. I personally like a quicker reload and quicker unload.

That's not true, moon clips are springy by nature and with the .40 relying on it to headspace it doesn't make for anywhere near as rigidly held a cartridge as would with a rimmed cartridge like .38 is.

All I've heard is S&W knows how to do it right while Ruger struggles and in DA I've had some issues with Ruger's .45 Redhawk shooting the ACP in both their clips and aftermarket ones. Single action no issues with factory ammo.

What sort of issues?

By the way, I suppose I should have checked an official source first. Here's the Ruger GP100 manual. There's a special section on page 13 regarding ammunition for the 10mm GP100s.

"The 10MM AUTO GP100® will function, and has been tested, with 40 S&W caliber ammunition, but may misfire (fail to fire) with some commercial ammunition. For this reason, Ruger does not recommend the use of 40 S&W ammunition in this revolver."

There is supposed to be a moon-clip by TK Custom made especially to deal with this issue. Don't know how well they work.

Failure to fire. I mostly shoot with my reloads, so it may be the primers and mixed cases I use are the issue, but I don't have that issue with .45 Colt in the same revolver with mixed brass.

Hence the .050 moonclips I purchased and took pictures of for everyone’s viewing pleasure.

Indeed frustrating.

Found a dude to make me some custom green lett’s. Asked for zombie green, think I got more of a Boston Celtics green, but I dig em. Spalted maple inserts. IMG_1041.jpeg

Onr testing video I found with the TK Custom clips was generally good but it appeared that there were still misfire issues with some of the ammo. The tester attributed it to mixing different kinds of ammo in the same moon clip.

I can see that as an issue with the thinner clips, but I’m getting 100% ignition with the thicker 0.050 clips which makes sense to me.
