A 19-year-old man accidentally shot and killed himself Tuesday morning while he was attempting to rob a Grand Prairie home, authorities said.

Cameron Sands, 19, of Fort Worth kicked in the door of the house and then shot himself in the stomach as he pulled a gun out of his pants to shoot the homeowner, Grand Prairie police said. The homeowner was not injured.

After Mr. Sands shot himself, he dropped the gun and ran out of the home. Police found his body around 5:30 a.m. in the driveway of the home in the 2800 block Garden Grove Road, said Lt. John Brimmer, a Grand Prairie police spokesman.

“This is the first that I’ve heard of a robbery suspect killing himself as he is drawing a gun out of his waist band,” Lt. Brimmer said. “The criminal evidence points to that. It certainly isn’t common.”

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner has ruled the death an accident.

Accident? Sounds like justifiable homicide to me.

Defense of a third person. The guy was a hero, he shot a burglar :)

Hmmmmm

1.."Mexican Carry" i.e. gun just stuffed in front of pants with no holster is NOT a Good Idea...

2..Keep yer booger hook offa da bang switch till ready to shoot..

Was the homeowner treated for oxygen depravation from laughing so hard?

No kidding. I can't imagine how confused I would be if I saw that happen. And i'd probably laugh quite a bit after the adrenaline wore off.

I can just picture the event. He kicks in the door, puts his hand on his gun, shouts.........

I AM THE ONLY ONE HERE QUALIFIED TO HAVE A GUN!

And the rest as they say is history!

I can honestly say that if that happened to me I wouldn't be physically capable of calling 9-1-1. I would be on the floor locked in a fetal position due to hysterics.

Touche' TCB. Touche' :D

Man. You just can't make something like that up.

"Mable - did you see what I think I just saw? Wonder if we should call someone."

God is on the side of the homeowner.

Just based on the article above, the robber was really intent on killing his victim first, then robbing the house. The homeowner probably did something way beyond the call of duty in terms of kindness sometime in his life, therefore, God protected him during that morning.

Thief taking the fiery escalator 'south'.... "Wow, I did NOT see that coming when I woke up this morning."

A clear cut case of justifiable suicide. Of course it still would not surprise me if the home owner doesn't get sued by the RDDBG's* family.

*Really Dumb Dead Bad Guy

I'd hire one of those litigation happy lawyers that like to sue homeowners for shooting criminals and sue his family for messin' up my door.

Maybe we can also get Glocks programmed to KB every time a BG tries to fire one. Instant gun karma.

A righteous shoot! lol!

If the homeowner and BG didn't know each other I can't imagine how the BG's family could sue but I have no doubt there are bottom-feeding scum out there that would try. Pretty sad!

I'm imagining the BG approaching the Pearly Gates... "Son, you're not supposed to be here yet. What happened?" "Well, I, uh, see, I, uh ..." Priceless! Course, a low-life like that probably got a pitchfork in the back before he got that far. Figuratively speaking at all, of course... :)
