I finally got a break to shoot my Winchester 1917 yesterday with some inexpensive Greek M2 1977 lot ball ammo. At 7 bucks per 20 box the rounds performed excellently, took only 3 rounds per every 25 yards to bull the rifle out to 175 yards.
I tested both the orriginal Balvar 8A scope and an ATR 4x32 scope on the adjustable mount. While the 8A is a great old scope, the mount itself was poorly adjustable and seemed stuck in windage. Probably need to dump it and remount the ATR.
One question, I've read on the net that if you keep your ammo in a warm storage space between 70 and 80 F, you get better velocity performance from it. Rumor mill or true?
