I noticed my dad does that same thing, coming down on the target. Was Corp in the late 50's to mid 60's and learned it there, so I started tinkering with it...and I'm not sure. I do seem to shoot a little better... *shrug*

I going to have to try coming down on my target also. Hey, if it works, great. I am allways open to new things that might improve my shooting. I just thought it sounded like BS because I have never heard of any modern self defense technique like this.

That's because as you're coming down on the target, you're obscuring it from your view. That's bad if the target is trying to kill you. :)

It's also wasted movement to draw your sidearm from your belt and bring it up and past the line of sight to the target, only to bring it back down again to get your sight picture. Poor efficiency.

My favorite was the esteemed Ms. Fienstein. During the debate over the assault rifle ban she was explaining why those scary looking rifles were more dangerous than "normal" rifles.

"The assault rifle can be fired from the hip while other rifles are aimed from the shoulder".

I don’t remember if somebody asked her why you couldn’t fire a regular rifle from the hip or aim an assault rifle from the shoulder. If they did I’m sure her answer exhibited as much logic as her first statement.

Sports Afield did an upland hunting segment several years ago and bemoaned the shortage of production 16 gauge shotguns, saying somehting to the effect of the major gun makers deemed the 16 "too perfect, with no room for improvements or enhancements", making it unprofitable to produce...
That's logic for you: you perfect an item, then discontinue it because you can't profit from correcting its defects or shortcomings.

oming down on target

In the mid 1950's I was in the USMC.
After qualifying with the M-1 rifle (I shot expert, BTW - Just had to brag), our company was given a familiarization run with the 1911A1 and the BMG.
The instructor told us to aim at the top of the silhouette target, and squeeze the trigger while slowly coming down on the target. His point was that we would be much more likely to hit a vital area with this method, especially with an unfamiliar weapon.

After buying my first glock i had to show my dad. The first thing he said was "wow look at that finish, you know they do that so you don't have to wipe off finger prints, you can't find finger prints on that finish". :uhoh:

hahahahahahahahhahaha!

"I don't see why people buy assault weapons and nuclear arms for fun, a family could have a domestic incident that could get out of hand and they may use those weapons." — Canadian Prime Prime Minister Jean Chretian

(I have searched high and low on the internet trying to find either a printed source for this quote or some indication that it's bogus. So far, I haven't found either. It just sounds stupid enough to be true...)

Overheard by a gunshop employee "if you shoot them with a 9mm, they will eventually bleed out" ***, this was in comparison to the .40 cal a customer was looking at when he asked the difference. I forget the employees exact words, but he made it sound like if you shot they with a .40 they would die instantly, but if you shot them with the 9mm it would take much longer. What an idiot.

former roommate: "The AK-47 is such a crappy weapon."

me: "What do you mean?"

fr: "You can't hit anything with it and it jams all the time."

me: "It jams all the time?"

fr: "Yeah, I know some people that fired some once and they couldn't even get a shot off."

:scrutiny:
