"Presidential adviser Karl Rove and Sen. Sam Brownback, two conservative Republicans who favor a guest-worker program for immigrants, will address the left-wing Hispanic advocacy group La Raza in Los Angeles this week.

It is wise for officials in the Bush Administration to speak to all Hispanic organizations; the Bush Administration is not against hispanics but merely illegal aliens. The point needs to be made, and I agree with Mr. Rove and Mr. Brownback making it, that Latin Americans make many tremendous contributions to America yet our southern border and immigration laws need to be respected... what part of that message do you disagree with?

Hmmm. Isn't there something a tad un-American about organizations whose sole purpose is to promote the self-interest of groups defined by "blood?" The goal at La Raza is to further "the race." To me that means taking care of your own at the expense of not-your-own. If that isn't divisive, especially at this time in our history, I don't know what is. Unfortunately La Raza doesn't seem to have much respect for laws either; they can't seem to distinguish between legal and illegal immigration.

It's good to see who's speaking at their conference. Always good to have a list of the panders.

NAACP?

Political associations bonded by race and ethnicity make me very uncomfortable. Values I can understand. Cultural problems I can understand. Racial solidarity is no goal for Americans.

I agree longeyes, the only way a nation of immigrants can become a new country all together is if they integrate, and throw off most of their cultural differences. Otherwise, you don't have a new country, you have colonies.

KKK? Aryan Nations?

Same rule applies. America is about vision and values, not skin. Victor Davis Hanson distinguishes between a multiracial America (two thumbs up) and a multicultural America (down).

That doesn't mean you have to make laws against tandoori chicken and tostadas, by the way, or stop Americans from enriching their education with foreign language studies.

Do my old block at 69th and Indiana Ave in Chicago; Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana; Dutch Harbor, Alaska and Bangor, Maine all have the same culture?

What's more important, whether I say "soda" or "pop", or whether I worship Jesus or Vishnu? Or whether I take things that don't belong to me without asking, or kill people just because I feel like it?

Just wondering...

I'm talking about respect for liberty, the values inherent in the Bill of Rights that make for a free society, a host of other things that civil life not only possible but comfortable.

I am not talking about whether you say potayto and I say potahtoe or whether you like grits and I like granola.

We take certain things for granted culturally in this society and these things have been components of our success as a nation. It would worthwhile for us to identify those and not just yammer about everyone having a "right" to come here to better his family.

I'm a native New Yorker

And I want to visit without leaving my gun (s) nearly 3000 miles away.

I don't want illegal aliens, I do not wan't Mexico, Ireland, or China even Norway
exporting their criminals here.

I don't want my political party talking to the KKK or La Raza.

& I don't want Giuliani anywhere near the Whitehouse, I vote for my guns
and I have lived under a Giuliani dictatorship once already, never again!

"In the spirit of a new people that is conscious not only of its proud historical heritage but also of the brutal gringo invasion of our territories, we, the Chicano inhabitants and civilizers of the northern land of Aztlan from whence came our forefathers, reclaiming the land of their birth and consecrating the determination of our people of the sun, declare that the call of our blood is our power, our responsibility, and our inevitable destiny. ... Aztlan belongs to those who plant the seeds, water the fields, and gather the crops and not to the foreign Europeans. ... We are a bronze people with a bronze culture. Before the world, before all of North America, before all our brothers in the bronze continent, we are a nation, we are a union of free pueblos, we are Aztlan. For La Raza todo. Fuera de La Raza nada."

That closing two-sentence motto is chilling to everyone who values equal rights for all. It says: "For The Race everything. Outside The Race, nothing."

Hillsry Clinton will not win the Dem nomination in '08. Look for a Western governor, or maybe the ex-gov of Virginia (I forget his name). Hilary has triangulated herself right out of the White House, and her continued support for the war in Iraq will kill her. She'll spend the rest of her political life in the Senate. The only senator with a shot is Russ Feingold.

If I had to bet right now, I'd put 5 bucks on Bill Richardson. For the Republicans, I've got no idea. McCain will never make it out of the primaries, no matter how many trips he makes to Bob Jones U.

What's funny about La Raza and MeCha is that their membership of "chicanos" (like pachucos, I have no idea what it comes from) tend to be much more disdainful of immigrants than the average joe. They don't want to make the US mexico; they want to make something new out of an invented Chicano identity that is uniquely American.

They've got a vision of racial identity that in my experience, most mexicans do not share, and they are mostly harmless. In 50 years, these flags and cinco de mayo (not traditionally that big of a deal south of the border) holidays will be like St. Patrick's day.

Much ado about nothing, as abrasive as I find these groups to be.

I hope you are right tube_ee. I think that there is a better chance of Hillary to win if a Guilliani gets in office. In fact I think it is assured. However, I do believe she will atleast try.

As for Richardson, I can think of worse people, and he has positioned himself to get a shot at a White House run.

Heh, if we are gonna talk about Americans of Italian descent getting the Presidency, Tom Tancredo people! Tom Tancredo!

A lot of people of Mexican descent are Americans first, no question about that. That is emphatically not so with recent illegal immigrants. As soon as someone--I keep waiting--really lowers the hammer on illegal alien employers and social welfare benefits--you will see how "harmless" these newcomers are. (Perhaps you are aware of the violence the other day in Los Angeles?) You will also, in time, see how harmless American citizens are. I'm sorry, but I think the future is bound to be full of strife unless we citizens are willing to capitulate to an endless stream of Mexicans. And I just don't see that happening, not even with traitorous politicians behind it.

It's too bad that Bill Clinton, Karl Rove, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Antonio Villaraigosa are lending legitimacy to the La Raza meeting. All of them are, additionally, pushing the already discredited Senatorial scheme. Talk about blatant absurdity.

As for Chicanos and La Raza, what is the "new identity" they want to forge? And why? Either they want to be Americans or they don't.

Not from what I see in my area, they basically want American taxpayer benefits with Mexico as their country, strange enough that is also the Mexican governments wish.

...this is like FDR playing up to the Nazi Party in order to get the German-American vote... :banghead:

If this is the GOP strategy, then it's time for the Republicans to sit out the next six years... :cuss:

It seems to me that all of the politicians have pretty much sold out totally to the major corporations and limited number of smaller businesses benfitting from illegal immigration. But it goes past that.

I don't know. I talk to liberal Democrats fairly regularly who have a hard line border stance based upon worker protectionism. Yet very few Democratic leaders want to listen to them, because those same Democratic voters hate the war more.

As for Republicans, other than a handfull of business minded folks reaping the rewards, virtually all of them are for closing the border, either based upon culture, or the labour concerns of the Dem voters.

Only people for illegal immigration are alot of Hispanic people. But even they are by no means universal in their support of illegal immigration.

Guiliani is already a corporate whore, he'll sell this country even faster than Bush has.

mordechaianiliewicz=> Minor correction in your post... I agreed with most of it but part above is slightly off... politicians of both stripes are for illegal immigration due to votes... Even though most illegal immigrants do not vote, they do influence others that do and politicians are sensitive no to be against them due to their vote potential... Indeed, much of the Democratic Platform toward illegal immigration (and part of the Republican Platform on the same subject) is geared toward not making enemies of illegals.

That, in a nutshell, explains our border problem. If, for example, Latins could not vote in this nation, we would have settled this border issue long ago...

I disagree; Rove is simply the Political Director. Due to the population shift and the rapid growth of the Latin American community, not addressing the Latin concerns would be a bad political move for the entire Republican Party. Rove is simply facilitating the next conservative leader, whoever that might be... Rove's shrewd political mind gave Bush two-terms in office and he is probably the best pol in Washington by a large margin... the Democrats have nobody even half as politically savvy as Rove...

"For the race everything; Outside the race nothing."

Sounds like something Hitler himself would say.

La Raza has no business on American soil unless its members are languishing in prison or being shot at by citizens.
