Guliani will never get the GOP nomination. He is pro-choice. It is just not going to happen because being pro-life is the litmus test for an acceptable GOP candidate, just like being pro-choice is a requirement for the Democrat nomination. No friends, a Clinton v. Guliani race will not happen. I predict GOP squabbling over things (like abortion) will result in a less than stellar candidate who will get beaten by Hillary......now if they nominate Condi....that is another story

It has nothing to do with being pro-life, and everything to do with being a conservative.

George W is about as moderate as the Republican base is willing to accept. Witness "Justice" Harriet Miers. George W won the first time because he talked the conservative talk when it came to taxes. He won the second time becuase he acted like a conservative when it came to national defense.

But he's just as much a moderate as a conservative, if not more so. There are plenty of issues the conservatives are eager to lynch W for, simply becuase he isn't conservative enough.

McCain and Guilliani aren't even a little bit conservative. They might be able to get the nomination, if nobody better steps up. But they'll never win the white house.

And Hilary couldn't be happier.

Guliani has no shot, he's Italian. Before you jump on me, so am I, and if you have a vowel at the end of your name forget about the Presidency.

Either Mit Romney or McCain will win the primary. If Hillary wins, I will be the first in line ot sign up for La Revolucion.

The actual poll said:

Giuliani, on the other hand, edged out Sen. John McCain of Arizona by only 8 percentage points, 30-22.

And then Lone_Gunman said:

The Republican nominee will surely be McCain or Giuliani. Personally, I think they will pair them up as President and Vice President, respectively.

This is HIGHLY unlikely IMO. The candidate is picked by the primary system. The primary system is run by the people in the party who "care the most." That usually means (in both parties) that it is the people who most strongly hate and fear the other party. So these aren't the moderates in the party. Perhaps those two would poll well with the mainstream GOP. Perhaps. But they are both disliked and distrusted by the people who vote in the primaries.

The only way I can see either one of them winning is if somehow no strong candidate further to the right emerges. There is bound to be several that emerge but perhaps they get knocked off by scandals one by one or something? It would have to be something like that which would then result in G or Mc getting the nomination. Nomination by default rather than by acclaim. Colin Powell could possibly be selected by the same type of strange circustances. I would prefer him to those other two as well or to a Democrat. Especially if there was still a GOP House and Senate to keep an eye on him.

I'm thinking that is no better than a 10% chance. The nation is polarized. That polarization tends to energize the extremes. The same people who vote in primaries. The same people in the GOP that totally, totally hate and loath Hillary Clinton and who will turn out by the tens of thousands to vote for somebody they see as her opposite.

Just remember that the primaries are totally different than the general election and you will be all right.

tulsamal,

If Hillary emerges as the Democratic nominee, then the Republican party faithful will be less inclined to pick a conservative, and instead pick whoever they think has the best chances of beating Hillary.

If Hillary is the Democratic nominee, the Republican voters will be of the opinion that any republican candidate is better than her.

This is exactly what McCain needs to ensure he gets the nomination. He will emerge as the most likely person to beat Hillary, and whether he is conservative or liberal will be unimportant to most Republican voters. Their battle cry will be exactly the same as it was in 2004: "He may not be our ideal candidate, but he is the lesser of two evils".

:( :uhoh:  :barf: :banghead:

At least that would get my friends in the Libertarian Party a lot more votes. If those 2 jerks become the 2 main choices, the NRA will be forced to back the LP, and the LP will probably get 10,000,000 votes or more, instead of the 400,000 votes in 2004.

Well, if we don't like the prospect of Hillary vs. Rudy, it's time to get motivated and involved at the primary level; let's not wait until they're what we're left with.

We've had some discussion about the Libertarian presidential candidates always garnering less than 1% of the vote. IIRC, back in 1992 Perot had 30-something % in the polls before he dropped out. What did Perot do right that the Lib Party is doing wrong ?

I am sick and tired of voting for the lesser of two evils, so next election I'm going to cast my write-in vote for the Palpatine/Vader ticket.

You are 100% correct.

Our protection is to work for the right Congressional candidates.

Our ultimate protection lies in reforming the school system and elevating the culture. Failing that we are going to see either increasing socialism or a "salvific" military take-over.

But the party primaries are run at the same time. I don't expect Hillary to just be annointed the "one" right from Iowa on. There will be people challenging her. So yes, there will be lots of Republicans who think "any Republican would be better than Hillary" but I think that will be more useful during the general election. During the primary, the base is going to vote for the candidate they want to win and that won't be some NY RINO like RG. I _could_ see the GOP base getting swept up in a "McCain can win" kind of groundswell but only in the general election, not the primary.

I'm not even 100% convinced that Hillary will be able to win the Democratic nomination in 2008 much less RG winning the Republican one!

RICHARD HOWE spoke for me. Pres. Bush and congress have squandered their opportunity to really change things in this country.
AND, I'll go into pretty heavy debt for the "stuff " that will likely be outlawed first. It's coming fellows, ready or not !
I'll vote the CONSTITUTION PARTY. I KNOW they're on our side.
Meantime Richard and I will keep our credit cards cocked and locked, ready for action.

The threat of Hillary in '08, with all it implies, has been on the political radar screen for a long time. Bush's primary job was to build up the ramparts, on all levels, so that her Presidency could never happen. He will have had eight years to do that, but right now it really doesn't seem a priority for him, despite the serious political consequences.

Romney ends in a vowel -- "A, E, I, O, and U, and sometimes Y!!!" :neener:

SERIOUSLY -- who ought to be nominated? No one (present company included) likes the looks of Giuliani, Hillary, McCain, Romney, Condi, etc. Do we have anybody with a snowball's chance of being both Conservative and Successful?

That's because when a real conservative looks like he is gaining in popularity with his message, both parties collude to destroy his reputation, with the help of the main stream media.

Giuliani or Clinton?
I'll either vote third party, of if no suitable third party candidate can be found, I'll stay home and watch America kill herself on the news.

Time to vote 3rd party.

Oh how true. Been Republican all my voting life. Been voting over 35 years now. One thing King George has made me see is. The Republicans are the party of big business. The workin man be D**N. Being in control of everything they should have done so much to return us back to the Republic as we started out as. Instead they have proved they are an enemy to our freedoms. Better forget about the threat in the mid east. Better worry way more about the threat in DC to the freedoms we once had

I believe my grandson's generation will be the first generation whose standard of living/quality of life isn't better than the previous generation and we have the current regime and congress to thank for that.

Beg to differ, respectfully. The standard of living will be much higher--for some people.

PILOT is correct. Mainstream America will not vote for an Italian American from New York City.
