I am just kind of curious---assuming the unthinkable happens, and firearms are banned by the general populace, kinda like britain (only Hillary style  ), and they come take firearms from personal homes, what would be the "correct" response?

Be a "responsible gun owner" and turn all of them in?
Only turn in the registered ones they know about?
"Molon Labe?"

Just curious if there's an "official" mantra for action if the stupid were to happen.

gun bans can and do happen in this country, look at DC,Chicago, the N.O confiscation,NYC and so forth.

Well, as a side note, if we slack off or fail to keep Hitlary out in 2008 due it in-fighting...we will pay the price. She will use the fullest extent of her power in every conceivable and creative manner to go against the 2nd Amendment, gun owners, gun industry and the entire gun culture from activity to supply.

As for the question states in the thread....that's one of those questions everyone asks about, but kinda knows the answer - but no one really speaks about it out loud. It's an unspoken truth. Jim Summarized it well.

Is it Groundhog Day?

Seriously. If people would put half the energy into actually working towards gun rights as they do fretting over the what-ifs, the what-ifs would become a hell of a lot less likely.

You want to know what will happen, 80% of gun owners will fold, 29.99% will lie, and 0.1% will stand their ground and get rolled over by the big machine, failing to make headline news beyond the extent to where the fedgov can trumpet its success against the war on terror by eliminating a dangerous series of fringe militias on American soil. My opinion, stand up and fight now or go move somewhere that really likes guns…unless you’re fine with giving them up.

We must not allow laws and events to create such a choice for lawful gun owners. It just would not be "right" to force otherwise lawful people to become criminals because of 2nd Amendment rights.

I agree with Nineseven that a majority will turn in their guns. The rest will become patriots.

NineseveN, you're 110% right. ;)

NineSeven,

You forgot to add that they will demonize you first. You'll be one, two or all of the following:

1] illegal drug user
2] pedophile
3] cult member/religious extremist (Sunday church go'er)
4] white-supremacist/racist
5] crazy/insane/mental problems
6] gun nut / illegal weapons stockpiler
7] terrorist

These are the government's alphabet agencies favorites for "winning the hearts and minds of Americans" for the approval to commit attrocities.

The majority of Americans, who by that time will be a generation that has grown up completely emasculated and brainwashed by liberal-progressive anti-gun, anti-faith, anti-capitalism and anti-liberty by mandatory conscription into government social-programming camps (public school) and TV media will applaud the JBT's when they squash you for making society safer for them and their kids. ...The cumulative attention span paid to the entire event will be about 2 minutes worth of sound-bites. Everyone will then immediately continue with their American Idol watching till a decade later when there will be a follow-up investigative report done on one of the government-approved news stations where it will be found and reaffirmed that the actions were justified and to remind everyone why they're safer.

The end.

I am forever bound by my military oath to "Preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, against all enemies, foreign and domestic"- Interesting that this oath has always said "the Constitution" and nothing about the government- I suspect it was worded that way for very important reasons- Guess that means that in this scenario I'm a dead man, but when I cross the bridge, I'd rather be greeted by my forefathers with a smile and a nod than with their turned backs- Granted, it's easier for me to say this from the perspective of being an old fart than it would be for someone younger with more to loose- We all have our own lines in the sand, but if history tells us anything, more lives are saved by drawing the line sooner than later-

Standard response:

Personally, I'm going to log onto the net and complain about it a lot and then talk real big about what I'm going to do when they ban steak knives.

I'm getting 0.1% tattooed on my arm then so when they sort us out you all will know where I stood.:D

Why, I'll be the happiest guy in the world. I study Pencak Silat and know how to use knives which will make me Super Bandit

I don't think we'll ever get to the point where there's a total BAN on guns. Notice every law seems to stop at the SKS (fixed mag. 10 rnd. semi-auto). When they tread in that area, they tread in hunting-rifle territory, and by extension upon the fuddites, who would actually bitch when gun-control finally affects them. I'm not saying you should sit on your duff while your guns are taken away- I love military-style semis and handguns- but a complete gun ban WON'T happen. There's something like 85 million gun owners in this country. They also won't do a confiscation- not going to happen- it would be search and seizure. Just keep pointing out to antis that gun-control doesn't make any sense. And for the love of God, we gun owners can't be so mopey (oh, we're all going to lose the 2nd Amendment battle). No, we're not going to lose anything. We're not out-numbered. It's just that the left is louder. I personally find two of the left's reasons for banning quite humorous:

1) Gun bans reduce crime. False, look at the crime in all the major cities

2) In the 1990s the Democrats justified the assault weapons ban (in part) by saying that we didn't need 'military' weapons because it was unlikely we would ever be invaded or face tyranny. Yet, in 2004-06 Democrats bitch that Bush is a Nazi/Fascist/Tyrant. So, by the Dems logic, we NEED assault weapons. Though, by their own words, we should be disarming when we need weapons the most.

Your guns won't be taken. Keep making noise and being active politically. The lefties aren't going to win.

If a gun ban happened all at once out of the blue like you stated. Then I would turn all my guns in, the reasoning is that all my gun are registered by the State Police. They know what guns I have transfered and bought.

what guns???

"i would give you my guns sir, but unfortunatly i lost them all in a tragic boating accident last week."

Turkey Creek: God bless you. The founders began their quest at a bridge too.

Barbara: You just described 99% of 'resistance'...

Prince Yamoto: You shouldn't be so certain of that. The categories of firearms targeted, are targeted in a cultural tolernace sequence. First, full autos were no good for the public. Now semi-auto's aren't good- but it would be absurd to ban bolt actions... In 40 years, when news media, governemnt run propaganda camps (public school), the lack of hunting and hunting lands, the decay and shrinking of the gun culture to legislative attacks ALL take their toll on the American consciousness...the culture of America at that time might see the banning of bolt-actions and lever actions as very appropriate.

Most kids are bombarded with anti-hunting propaganda from all directions. It is bad to hunt, it is ignorant to hunt, hunters are evil or barbaric - guns are bad, all of this is dangerous, the environment is threatened and all of these themes are constantly being pushed on our children by TV, school and news media. Every depiction of hunting or hunters is ultra-negative.

People can be made to believe anything. That's one of the ultimate truths of the universe.

Don't be so sure that there aren't elements, working hard TODAY, to get people to believe this stuff TOMORROW.

Look around outside the USA for examples of how this has already happened.

Whoops cbsbyte, you forgot about that rifle you transferred out of state to me. ;) It's not registered any more.

Don't Tread on Me:

Your concern is valid. And yes, people can be made to believe anything but that doesn't mean that they will. As one who is working to be a university professor, I can see that you (singular to Don't Tread on Me, plural to the rest of you) see through the jargon. If all of us on THR see through it, I'm sure other Americans can be brought to see through it too. Having interacted with various university professors including ones who call themselves "Dr." I can tell you that their degrees don't make them experts in all fields. My father imparted this knowledge on me for dealing with so called "experts in their fields":

"They don't know much more than you do" (That's the G-rated version).

It's the truth. I can tell you from experience that my generaton (20s and younger) knows that we have been sold a lie by american academia. Many more young people are turning conservative too. It has to do with coming from broken/screwed up homes and having a yearning for a more stable environment and by extension, creating one for themselves. They're also sick of being told "there's no such thing as a wrong answer" and then being failed because they take a conservative viewpoint. Remember that in (let's hope) a couple years, we're going to have veterens coming back from Afghanistan and Iraq who are probably going to put more than a few of these liberals in their place. The rest can be dealt with by your vote. I don't like the American public school system, so you know what I do? I vote NO on all their budgets increases- as should you if you don't like them. Every little bit helps (or hurts). Trust me, you won't harm the future of America's children- you can use the money you save and send them to a private school or home school them.

Having many degrees doesn't necessarily make you smarter than someone who doesn't. One of my sayings is, "there's a reason intellectuals are the first to go in a revolution"-- what I mean is that nobody likes a smart-ass. that's what these people are: smart-asses. You see it, I bet your (I'm assuming you have them by the nature of your reply) children see it. Don't forget to exercise your FIRST ammendment rights too. Call these bastards out when they lie. When ever you feel helpless to effect change just say to yourself, "I'm not as helpless as they think I am."

I seriously doubt I'm going to see the JBT's breaking down my door looking for my guns in my lifetime.

If it does ever get to that point, I'm sure I'll have a bit of warning from the other 40 million gun owners who probably fall before me in the alphabet.

I'm sure those 40 million before me would make them think twice about taking from number 40,000,001 lol.

I suppose that in a true apocalypse people would be spending less time worrying about gun grabbing than basic survival. I don't lose any sleep over this topic.
