9mm Luger (the cartridge)= 9mm Luger (the gun)
.45 ACP = 1911
10mm Auto = also 1911
.38 Super = also also 1911
.40 S&W = the ubiquitous Glock 22
.357SIG = SIG P-229
.44 Mag = If I said anything other than "Model 29", I'd have to feel pretty lucky, punk.
.357 Mag = Model 27.
.38 Special = Military & Police/Model 10. 4" barrel, of course.
.380 = Sorry, JMB, but it's inextricably associated with the PPK.

As for the Luger, wasn't it designed for .30 luger?

Yes it was. However, the German military felt that the 7.65mm Parabellum round was not powerful enough, so Georg Luger created the 9mm Parabellum by necking up the 7.65mm.

For the 9mm beauty queen, the P-08 Luger. Great lines, ergonomic grip but unfortunately a hanger queen.

OK, I'll play...

.45 ACP 1911/1911-A1

.45 Colt Colt SAA

.38 Spl S&W Mdl 10 4" skinny-barrel (maybe the Colt Lawman [?] series)

.357 Mag S&W Mdl 19

.41 Mag Long barrel Ruger Blackhawk (only .41 Mag I've ever owned & operated)

.44 Mag The Classic 6" Mdl 29 S&W

.30/30 Marlin Lever action

.44-40 "Lucas McCain" & his loop-levered tricked-out Winny [I know, I know, a holly-wierd TV show rifle.....]

.30-06 Springy 1903xx, and the 1917xx

.22LR auto Ruger Mk1, Mk2, etc pistols. I can't count how many rounds I've run through these, but gotta be at least 150,000.

.22LR revo S&W Classic 22 "Kit Gun", before they had model numbers.

.22LR auto rifle hmmmm tuff call, but I choose the Marlin 99

9MM Para hmm another toss-up Browning Hi-power or Georg Luger's "Pistol Parabellum '08"

Pump Shotgun Rem 870 Wingmaster series (even though I own & operate a Maverick/Mossy, is there really any other choice?)

Your Mileage Will Vary....my choices

250 Savage and the M99
30-06 and the Garand
45 ACP and the Thompson SMG
357 and the S&W 586

Good thread.

.45 LC = Colt SAA.
.45 S&W = You guessed it, the S&W Schofield.
.45 ACP = 1911 and the 1917
.44 Russian = S&W Second and Third Model Russian with Cyrillic markings and a shoulder stock, of course. IMHO one of, if not the, most beautiful revolvers ever made. I love this gun.
.44 Special = S&W Triple Lock
.44 Magnum = H. Harris 5 inch S&W Model 29.
.38 Special = Tough choice, but I'll have to go with the Chief's Special.
.357 = S&W Registered Magnum
7.63x25 = Mauser 712 Schellfeuer, w/ sholder stock.
12 gauge = Greener boxlock SxS. Paradox chokes an added bonus.
30-06 = M1 Garand
7.62x51 = Either the M14 or FN-FAL
.303 British = SMLE
7x57 = Spanish Mauser
45-70 = Marlin 1895G
40mm = M79
.50 BMG = M1921A1 or MG52A

Really good thread!

But I'll be a but different, cause it is supposed to be marriages made in heaven, meaning near perfect combinations!

50 BMG.... Ma Duece
30-06......M1 Garand
30-30..... Winchester 94(Marlin is OK here too!)
45-70.......Marlin Guide Gun

45 Colt....1873 SAA, thought the Ruger Blackhawk gets an honorable nod for giving us the strength to 'hot rod' this old classic into a new level of power!
45 ACP.....1911
40 cal......The various Glocks, found in PD holsters across the country.

OK, fairly normal so far.....

The greatest use of the mid bore cartidges in handguns is as a concealable carry gun or back up piece that can suppiliment heavier firepower or be carried deeply concealed, IMHO.....so...

38 special....S&W Jay frame, still the choice for many
9 m/m Para..... Kahr PM9....The LUGER, so it started the 9, OK...but it had too much action exposed and, well how any are in service today? The BHP comes coser to being a match in my book.

I really spend little time with magnum revolver's, so I'll let other pick their faves here.

Come on now guys. Everybody knows the 45-70 goes hand in hand with the Springfield Trapdoor. :D

I've shot a handfull of differen't .40S&Ws and frankly that particular caliber is best shot from a Steyr M40 (one can outshoot G23s all day long with the Steyr).

some ones not previously mentioned:

.44 Special, in a 5.5" Colt SAA New Frontier

.22-250, in a XP-100R :evil:

.380 ACP, in a Colt model M 1908

.38 Super, in a 1911

10mm, in a 1911 (oops, this one has been mentioned a lot, hasn't it?) :D

9mm, in a Colt LW Commander

.30 Mauser, in a CZ-52

.44 mag, in a 5" Model 629 Classic

.480 Ruger, in the Super Redhawk
:evil:
