Gun show... A bunch of bitter clingers who won't face forward thinking

I had to really look for that microtypo after ny32182 pointed it out... Nonetheless, it was a good poster.

We have to police our own ranks, or someone will insist on doing it for us... If I see a dealer selling crap like Turner Diaries or the new Nazi or klucker stuff, I will go raise hell with the promoter. Because you know if a news crew shows up, they'll be zeroed in on the racists... And we'll all get the tag.

All of the gun shows I've been to prohibit cameras.

However, I guess if I spot a German-made Mauser for sale, I'll have to bellyache to the operators, huh?

Oh, wait. No, it's just the knockoffs I should object to. Like 03s.

Give it a rest. It's like channel surfing. If you don't like what's for sale, don't (A) look or (B) go.

I'm fairly sensitive to PR as far as A2 is concerned, but I don't see a genuine problem with sale of Nazi stuff at gun shows, even knockoffs.

Banner/flag size notwithstanding.

Sorry folks, I'm southern born and southern bread and when I die I'll be southern dead but the racist stole the confederate flag from the south. When people see it most think of hatred not heritage. Doesn't make it right. Just the way I see it.

I saw a slam piece on Sarah Palin in which the author referred to her as an "unreconstructed woman."

That's an odd word.

That's an old term: the original is "Unreconstructed Confederate/Rebel". It refers, of course, those Diehard to Graybacks who just couldn't "get with the program" after the War:

"Oh I'm a Good Old Rebel,
Now that's just what I am...

...I won't be Reconstructed,
And I don't care a damn."

It's been used more recently in the form: "Unreconstructed Segregationist."

So it's sort of Liberal Code for "Loathesome Lunatic Fringe Recidivist Neanderthaloid."

It's about perception. And it's too late to fight that battle.

The confederate flag is associated with racism, like it or not. You are not going to be able to disassociate it.

And I cringe every time I see one on a vehicle with an NRA sticker - because it confirms what every non-gun person has been told by our media - gun owners are redneck racists.

Let me re-type Bogies post to reflect reality.

It's all about education. It's never too late to fight that battle.

The Civil War has been associated with racism, rather than States' Rights. We need to teach accurate history, starting now.

Ok, also teach honest history. It was about the State's "rights" to remain slave states.

Hrmmm...not sure I agree with that. I'm a foreign transplant, but I have a pretty good knowledge of American history. Slavery was a part of the issue, but not the main thrust. As much as Lincoln hated slavery, he believed that the point of the war was keeping the Union together.

Of course, it's the winners who write history, so these days, they teach us that the Civil War was about slavery. Just like the Gauls were unwashed savages.

The Confederate flag (like the Swastika) has been taken and turned into a symbol it was never meant to be.

Ah! So calling folks "unreconstructed" is a sly way to call to them racists. So, I'm a racist because I don't like Obama's economic policies, and I'm a sexist because I'm voting for Palin instead of Clinton.

Ok. It all makes perfect sense :scrutiny:

It appears some "mofo"(the mofo that uses "mofo" in his handle) here on this thread has mistakenly assumed I was a southerner bragging about being a southerner and took offense to my comments and decided I needed to be put in my place. I am a northerner and on behalf of northerners I appologize for the "mofo's" comments.

A bunch of angry clingers that refuse to to give up their old, backward thinking for the New World advancement.

Maybe this is current "speak", but I just can get past this line the OP had. I just don't understand it. You all are making various comments, but I don't know if it relates to the thread topic ... gunshows...clingers....backward thinking......new world advancement...???

I don't like the flags and all the racists who peddle them right next to the stun guns and soon to be outlawed body armor. I've still got plenty of Bank of Richmond notes in my family photo album, I don't need a re-production flag to know what stock I came from.

but it's still the kind of thing which would be an immediate turn off to someone who had never been to a gun show

Heaven forbit we should allow freedom of expression in the US of A.

It baffles me how Americans can proudly display Nazi memorabilia. Given all that our country went through and lost to defeat them, I find it repulsive for anybody to appreciate anything about them.

Your same line of thinking could be used to describe any com bloc firearm such as an AK or Mauser, etc as many American soldier lost their life to one.

What about the people who collect Japanese WWII memorabilia?

Yes there are some who subscribe to the Nazi way of thinking, but most are just collectors of WWII artifacts.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

This is an excellent example of the kind of threads we don't do at THR--people who agree on the responsible ownership and use of firearms bickering anyway because somebody's the wrong religion and the other guy has the wrong flag on his truck.

I thank you all for your excellent lesson.
