I'm heading to a gun show tomorrow (Carlisle, PA) with exactly $800 in my pocket. My ideal goal is to get a converted Saiga-12, but I'm not holding my breath. Assuming the Saiga-12 is very likely a no go, what other unique Evil Black Rifles out there could I get for less than $800? No need to mention AKs or ARs as I'm sure the place will be littered with them.

I was looking at the FAL and it seems like a really cool rifle, but is it realistic to think that I one could obtain one in good condition for less than $800? Any other EBRs worth considering for this price range?

Yeah, you should be able to pull that off. Maybe not at a gunshow this weekend, but with a little looking.

If you want a Saiga-12 converted for that price, why not just order it from Tromix?

I wouldn't buy a gunshow dealer conversion, myself. You never know whether the work will be quality or bubba-ized...and a bad weld is hard to see, sometimes, until it cracks.

I'd definately like to get one from Tromix, but I've never ordered a firearm over the internet and it seems like it's a royal pain in the butt. If I could find one locally and avoid all that crap that'd be ideal, but as you said quality could definately be lacking. I may end up biting the bullet (or in this case the buckshot :p ) and ordering one though.

Any other ideas for sub-$800 EBRs, folks?

Look in the paper or in the classifieds and find a dealer that is willing to do transfers at a reasonable price. Get that dealer to send his FFL copy to the people you want to order from. Order the rifle to be shipped to that dealer.

Simple.

The only issue is finding the dealer. I used to use a guy in Houston that did the stuff out of his house and had tables at gun shows occasionally.

You can order the Tromix conversions through www.fbmginc.com as well.

There's nothing to it.

Find an FFL in your area that'll do a transfer - they'll charge you a nominal fee, mine does it for $20 - and they'll get you a signed copy of their FFL, or they'll send a copy of their FFL to the seller for you. Call up Tromix and tell them what you want, they'll make payment arrangements, then you drop the payment and the FFL copy (if your FFL gave you one) in the mail to them. They get the paperwork and money, send your new toy to your FFL who calls you up when he gets it. Then it's just a matter of filling out the 4473 with your FFL, just the same as buying any other gun.

The waiting is the worst part, but everything else is a piece of cake. :)

Tromix did a conversion on my Saiga 7,62x39 rifle I sent in.Folding stock,10 parts legal,
takes all AK high cap mags.Very nice work about $350.

I'm glad that that ordering firearms online isn't as complicated as I originally thought. It's especially comforting since my gut tells me I won't find anything at the show that interests me. I hope I'm wrong. :(

Well the gun show kinda sucked. Very poor selection of EBR rifles aside from some absolutely over the top expensive AR-15s. I only saw a handful of AKs and absolutely no SKSs. Odd, eh? I was gonna leave empty-handed until I saw a Glock 26 for an uber cheap price, so I jumped on that. Man, I gotta get out of this pistol-buying rut...

Be sure to check the Equipment Exchange on AR15.com if you are looking for bargins on EBR's. I scored an excellent condition Armalite M4gery (100rds down the pipe) for $700 and the guy I bought it from scored a Chinese M1A for the same amount.

im going to a gun show next saturday with 400$ do u think i could get an ak with that much?
