Hillbenny,
I heard the name of the shop, but I'm not sure if I remember right. It was one of the Pawn shops in Ashland a couple of weeks ago. I heard it on local radio news. I never go into those shops, so it didn't ring a bell.

Why did the customer let the clerk point the gun at him in the 1st place? Let alone pull the trigger... Sounds to me that both of them weren't all that smart about the incident...

Another question

So if you are sitting there and they guy covers you with the muzzle of a gun either a shop owner or another customer, I usually just move out of the way and say watch your muzzle or something to that effect, but what if they do it again or continue to do it, because, frankly, a couple times they didn't even respond. What if they continue to point it at you?

How do you know if the gun is loaded or not (remember the rules) and when is this a viable threat to your life?

Would you ever feel threatened enough to return the favor?

Just wondering cuz I could see it happening.

For all those above who have these "free gun" or "I'm rich now" ideas, remember that you won't be dealing with the shop owner, you will be dealing with his insurance company. Not quite the same.

...Only up to the limit of liability. If a jury awards $20 million, and Joe's Pawn only bought $10 million worth of liability insurance, chances are you'd be the rich owner of one slightly used pawn shop...

I have a good idea how the ammo got in the gun. The OP said it was at a local pawn/gun shop. That means the gun was likely used. I've seen more times than I care to remember seeing some idiot walk into my local store with a gun for trade. He takes the gun out and hands it to the clerk. The clerk clears the gun and poof, a live round files out of the chamber. I suspect the gun came in used and made its way into the display case with no one ever checking to see if it was loaded. Obviously the clerk didn't clear the weapon before handing it to the customer which tells me they don't practice proper handgun safety there.

Well at least that customer that got shot knows the gun works!

Kidding! Very irresponsible indeed.

Having been shot negligently myself, I know, it sucks!

You guys picking on KY are just mad that the Brady's hates us more than your state :) .
I'm only about an hour away from Ashland, The only gun shop I know there is Borders where we bought our safes at, they are not exactly a "gun and pawn" place.

It wasn't Border's I know that place. It was a downtown shop.

Also, For the smart a$$ that was bad mouthing Kentucky, this incident is an anomaly or we wouldn't be talking about it. Don't talk greasy about God's Country.

I'm picking on KY because I got family there. Matter of fact, I have family everywhere from Missouri through West Virginia/North Carolina. I come from a long line of large, ugly, inbred honkies apparently :p

Well then, the ugly ones you see are probably related to me :D I found some old pics from the late 1800's/early 1900's of some of my ancestors and they were a rough looking bunch, looked like they just came down from the trees :D

Pompous posturing by a few here!

Bear in mind that everyone is human here and therefore subject to brain lock!

Even legendary LEO/NRA instructor Bill Jordon fired an "empty" model 19 into a fellow officer!
