Of The Patriot-News

The video starts on an Allison Hill street corner, showing about half a dozen young men posing with handguns and what appears to be crack cocaine, bragging about selling drugs and doing time.

Titled "Hood" and shot in the 1400 block of South 15th Street, the five-minute video is making the rounds on YouTube, a popular Internet site that lets users upload video clips.

It begins with a title screen saying "Southside Projects" and "Harrisburg, Pa."

Authorities said some in the at least 6-month-old video showing weapons-bearing young men rapping about the thug life were on probation, which was then revoked.

"They are not allowed to have guns if they are on probation or parole," said Harrisburg Police Chief Charles Kellar.

Links to the video were sent to The Patriot-News and other media yesterday by Jason Smith, who ran unsuccessfully for mayor last year. Smith, a critic of Mayor Stephen R. Reed, said it showed the seriousness of Harrisburg's crime problem.

The video "is an indicator of the depth of crime in Harrisburg in terms of the culture," Smith said. "This is a cultural problem. We clearly have a deep-rooted problem here, and the solution has to be wide-ranging. The solutions need to be deep-rooted."

Kellar said his officers knew about the video shortly after it came out and were able to identify most in the gang.

Those on the video are not identified, but many of their faces are shown. Most are 17 to 20 years old, police said.

The last man in the video said he was out of prison on bail when the video was shot. He tells how he was recently arrested for dealing drugs. He is now back in jail on unspecified charges, Kellar said.

"I'm gonna do my time, come back and do the same old thing," he said, staring into the camera in a closeup shot. "I got a daughter. She's gonna be [doing coke] with my [friends] down here.

"A black cop. He won't take the cuffs off me so I can throw the [drugs] in the toilet. [Screw] him. I got the [drugs] on me. They check my [pants]. The stuff falls out. I got it. Go ahead. Put me in the cell."

Dauphin County District Attorney Edward M. Marsico Jr. said he saw the video when it first was posted on the Web. He said there are armed gangs selling drugs in Harrisburg.

"I consider a gang a loose group of more than two individuals engaged in criminal activity," Marsico said. "So, yes, we certainly have gangs in that sense here in Harrisburg and other areas."

Morononic Thugs

Only moronic thugs would appear in a video depicting illegal acts in the 'hood. What better evidence to use against them for proof of drug possession, and unlawful weapons possession ?

The problem is that prison no longer deters the majority of the criminal element. It just takes them out of circulation for a while. Sadly, when they get out of prison, they will more than likely go right back to the "lifestyle".

There are a lot of rock quarries around Harrisburg PA. I say reinstate chain gangs. Nothing like breaking oversize with a sledge hammer that wont fit in the jaw crusher.

also...

i thought the timing of this particular story was interesting, with the hearings going on in the state capitol today...ya don't think the Patriot News had some agenda putting this story (about a 6-month old video) in their edition today???
any bets that some anti- holds up a copy of that story in the hearing today???

Yeah, the patriot news really irks me. Who cares about the video? Its a bunch of retards posing with guns. Guys who are 'hard' dont have to show off in videos and pass them around on the internet. Besides, drugs are common place in any major city or town. If anything, this should encourage more people to carry. I know some of those miscreants venture into HACC parking lots to do some shopping.

I think that explains the timing.

Armed ghetto thug gangs selling drugs.
Better put a stop to it before it becomes an epidemic.

What the hell was that .45 he was carrying? Some special edition gold-plated model or something? Probably a .45 commemorating Iwo Jima what a turd. He can't handle condition 1!

what pisses me off, is where are the NEW charges for being in possession of firearms. It's not just a parol violation like forgetting to check in or getting drunk or failing to get a job, these guys touch a gun, they should be booked with new charges

The penalties for being caught with an illegal gun are absolutely toothless.

If a previously law-abiding citizen commits a crime, they can't have one legally anymore. Fine.

If a felon, who couldn't have one anyway, has one, they get a slap on the wrist.

If a good guy shoots a bad guy in defense, the bad guy's family takes them for everything they own in a civil suit.

If a bad guy shoots a good guy, the good guy's family just loses their livelihood, most often, and the bad guy gets off with a lesser charger.

The system is broken.

Liability

That depends on the state. Some states have civil liability protections. If the force is justified, the injured party cannot sue for injuries caused by said force.
