Guns no longer welcome at Starbucks

It’s a description not a name and a fitting one. They need something else to do besides sitting around all day….plus a bath.

So what…..Starbucks has overpriced coffee and their store is full of tree hugging wimpy mother earth loving dirt head communist hippies.
I'm hoping your remarks are meant for humor. To seriously categorize patrons of Starbucks in this manner, my wife included, is offensive and shows a serious lack of comprehension and intelligence.

Joe McCarthy and Spiro Agnew some of your hero's?

Which brings up the question, if someone in the anti-gun faction made the statement, "gun owners need something else to do besides sitting around all day playing with their guns.......and they need a bath" the reaction would be????????? Just sayin.........

Open Carry Is "Off" Anyway

I can't access their memo now, however, if it is re: Open Carry, it's just reasonable, common, sense. I don't want these juveniles acting out around me any more than I want any other flaming political perspective pushed in my face... Kids who Open Carry do it a) to get a rise out of people b) 'cause they can and c) don't care how anyone else feels.

I don`t give a damn any how, I don`t ever go into Starbucks & for those of you who are whining about it, don`t pa·tron·ize em make your own damn coffee, it`s cheaper, problem solved...................

Can anyone suggest action that Starbuck's could take to be neutrally positioned?
In my opinion, their previous policy of only following local and federal laws was as neutral as it gets. They weren't pro or anti anything. Now they are leaning toward the anti side of things by not allowing OC even though it is otherwise legal.

I understand they are tired of being in the spotlight, but I don't feel pissing off a large section of your customer base is the best approach at fixing the problem.

What would you have done?

Asked people not to open carry "in a disruptive manner"?

Say "no rifles/shotguns"?

Blue Brick, I'm a 59 year old hair-to-my-shoulders hippie, I love this earth and passionately love all the trees surrounding my home. I will, however, pick off the occasional deer that strays into the woods.

I also have my CCW and carry constantly. I primarily stay in the north end of my home so each of those rooms have a gun hidden, except when my grandkids are here.

I shower or bathe twice a day.

However, I only go to Starbucks when visiting my office in Texas and my co-workers want to meet there.

On such occasions, all the patrons I encountered were far more respectful of other people than you have been in this thread.

Wow, blaming pro-gun open carry for this is certainly rich. I guess if you have an agenda, like being anti-open carry, you'll take whoever you can as a bedfellow. "Oh we did this to ourselves! Oh we're such a bad group of citizens!" Sounds like just more of the wussified self-depreciating attitude that seems popular lately. (See any TV commercial where a man is portrayed as an incompetent boob)

If you think for one minute starbucks' attitude was "oh just leave us out of this" you are, at best, naive. Let me remind you of something: They're a business, they revel in publicity. I visited sbux the last time the other anti-gun folks had their boycott, and the barrista told me business wasn't just up, it was way up. The company changed its mind, likely due to political pressure. If you prefer not to open carry, then don't. I have had a lot of more honest people say they're just plain afraid to; much preferable to what some in here do.

Sometimes, the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to over-reach their righteousness.

It's been a while since I was on THR, so my social skills w/r/t to this forum may be a bit rusty. I say this as politely as I can, but I have to say it.

What gives you the right to judge my intentions? I OC daily, and I can assure you than none of your assertions are correct.

I carry openly because I am of the informed belief that criminals prefer to avoid those who can obviously defend themselves. I have a 5-year-old daughter and a pregnant wife to defend, and I believe it is my duty to do so to the best of my abilities.

I certainly "care" what the people around me feel - I simply hold my concern for their feelings secondary to my family's safety.

I've introduced a large number of responsible adults to the concept of self-defense and carry in general, through my interactions with them in public. I strive to always be a welcoming representative of an armed and responsible citizenry.

Your characterization of me as an attention-seeking "kid" is, quiet frankly, highly offensive.

Do you fit the description(s) you are giving out in this thread?

Yes I have been at Starbucks, hence my synopsis of the situation. No I don’t fit in and I don’t make a habit or requirement to go Starbucks. Forget guns, around here camouflage and cowboy boots causes rolled eyes.

You are wrong.

Calling people names and pretending to tell other people how they think and why they act is out of line.

And it is not helpful or constructive in any way.

In light of the recent news that Starbucks is caving to the anti-gun groups, I would suggest that you not only take your business elsewhere, but be sure to let them know why. They need to be able to correlate a dip in their sales to the recent request to leave our guns at home.

My email to Starbucks:

Goodbye Starbucks. Your recent decision to blame the gun owners of America for dragging you into the gun control debate has caused me to take my business elsewhere. Maybe you should have asked the anti-gun groups to leave you alone as much as you asked the law abiding gun owners to leave you alone.

I find it hard to believe that you would make this decision based on the fact that historically you have made more money from the pro-gun groups than the anti-gun groups. But, if you don't want our money, someone else does.
A non-event for me. I do not care for overpriced coffee with burnt taste.:barf: Even when I'm back home I go to Coffee Heaven instead of Starbucks.

I do not know where Dunkin Donuts stands on gun related issues, but their coffee sure tastes a whole lot better.:)

their store is full of tree hugging wimpy mother earth loving dirt head communist hippies.

Such ill informed statements like that hurt our side considering they're demonstrably false and ignorant of the facts. Such prejudice does us no good and is low road bigotry.

How petty of us to turn on a company that has tried to treat us just like everyone else and how pathetically low road to spread lies about them and their customers when WE have been their customers all along.

They're a coffee shop.

They don't want to be a political stage for a contentious issue that will alienate some portion of their customers; it interferes with business.

Take the high road, leave them in peace, and concealed means concealed.

Sheesh. It's not that hard, people.

This IS a 2A issue.

No, not at all. That's like saying its a first amendment right if starbucks don't allow people to give political speeches at the serving counter. Starbucks is not advocating any laws that restrict gun rights. Therefor it is not in any way, shape, or form a second amendment issue. Don't like their policies or statements? Go elsewhere. Simple.

My local Dunkin' Donuts is a combination store that is also a Baskin Robbins. It's across the street from the a college campus, and I take my daughter there 1-2 times a week on average. I've never had a negative comment there.
