You need another poll option. Those who started with autos, still only have autos, but DO have a desire for a revolver. That's me.

Me too! The more I shoot .357s the more I enjoy them! I keep saying the next pistol is going to be a revolver...and then I buy another semi-auto. I am definately getting a Ruger sp101...I have wanted one for about five years ... but my next gun is most likely going to be a CZ82 or keltec PF9 - I will get a revolver eventually, I really do enjoy them!

My first "serious" carry gun was a Colt Detective Special "Fitz Special" hard chrome, bobbed hammer and night sight.

EDC nowadays is a S&W 642.

In between (in no particular order): customized Colt Series 70 Combat Commander, Kimber Classic, Colt Special Combat, Les Baer Concept VII, Dan Wesson Heritage, Glock 19, S&W 3913, S&W 4586, Glock 17, Browning Hi Power, Sig Sauer 226, customized S&W 19 (snubby), Seecamp LWS32, Walther PPK, Taurus M85CH (hammerless), S&W 686, Springfield TRP.

9mm never did anything for me, nor did high-caps. None of my three Glocks (2 19's and a 17) were ever reliable. I guess I gravitate to wheelguns and 1911s.

My latest and most favorite belt gun: S&W Ladysmith Model 65. Next on my list, for keeps: Ed Brown.

Then I'd need the complementary "Started with revolvers and have a desire to get a semi at some point".

You need some more catagories.
I started into handguns with a semi-auto pistol, and now have both semi's and revolvers. I don't prefer one over the other.

That would put you into the middle or just up from it position. Pick the one that fits you best given how long you've been shooting and when in that time you "saw the light"... :D

At age 18 my first firearm was a Winchester 94 .30WCF. Second firearm was a Colt SAA .357 magnum. Still own and shoot them at age 68.

That's got to be some sort of record. I'm very impressed at both the guns and you for still shooting. And many more years of enjoying both having and using those guns to you. Those two guns must feel like regular family by now.

What the hell is holding you back? ! ? ! You know that they have support groups for folks that can't say no to semi auto guns don't you? :D

I started with a revolver, but bought all autos when I started buying my own guns, and that pattern stuck for quite a while.

Now that I'm 50-something, I own about half-and-half, but revolvers are slowly taking the lead (There's a George Jones song in here somewhere...)

The older I get, the more I like to buy classic/standards in second-hand revolvers.

I can't vote.
I started with revolvers, then started shooting semiauto pistols and have always had about an even mix of both ever since.
Both have their place.

I can't vote either.
I started with a 1911, these days I enjoy both revolvers and semi-autos.

I can't see any way to alter the poll options now. But I see now that I should have made the middle one something along the line of;

"Started with semis or revolvers but now enjoy both equally"

If you two want to see it that way and go ahead and pick the middle option I think it suits both of you the best.

I bought a Beretta 92FS while I was in the Army.
I bought one wheel gun, it was a Charter Arms... yeah, I know, POS. That's why it's gone.
But I like semi autos. But I won't deny a good Smith when I see one, or get the chance to shoot it.

My first pistol was a 357 blackhawk years ago,, still have it in the safe. Use mostly semi-autos now, and like them.

The first handgun that I had any experience with was a S&W Model 60. It was my grandfather's gun until he was too old to be trusted with a firearm, and then it sat unused in my father's safe until a couple of years ago. I got it out and shot it just out of curiosity and fell completely in love with it.

Not too long after that I decided to buy my own handgun, and decided to go with a FNP-9. Even though I love revolvers, the advantages of a semi-auto are too overwhelming to ignore. I love the capacity, the smooth recoil, and overall feel of my FNP-9. It has since won my heart over, and now would say that I definitely prefer semi-autos over revolvers. My next several handgun purchases will most likely be semi-autos.

Revolvers have always, and will always, have a certain "cool factor" in my opinion though. There is something that's just bad-ass about a large caliber revolver that I'll always love. Maybe I've just watched "Dirty Harry" a few too many times... who knows!

I started with revolvers for powerful calibers. Went to about 50/50 mix, now back to 70/30 in favor of the revolver. Got tired of having shells bounce off my head. Did I say larger calibers.

I started out with a terrible Taurus Model 83, a disaster of a gun that I soon got rid of. I replaced it with a Dan Wesson 15-2, and shot that only for about a year, then I started buying tiny .22's for a BUG, and they all sucked, so I bought a Beretta 950 .25, that I still have about 30 years later. I started buying semiautos, a few .380's, then some 9mm guns, and then a few .45 ACP guns.

I now have a varied collection:

S&W M&P 15-22P pistol.
Beretta 84 .380.
Kel-Tec SUB 2000 9mm rifle.
Astra A-75 9MM
Astra A-100 9MM
Tanfoglio "Mossad" 9MM compact.
Tanfoglio "Mossad" 9MM full sized.
Beretta 92FS 9MM.
S&W 5906 9MM.
S&W 4506 .45.
S&W 4586 .45.
Dan Wesson 15-2 6VH with a 4" extra barrel.
Dan Wesson 715 6VH with a 4" extra barrel.
Dan Wesson Model 44 6"-VH

Coming sooner or later:

AR .223 rifle.
AK Rifle.
S&W 28.
S&W 686.

The first handguns I ever shot were my dads. A Dan Wesson M15, Colt Govt Model and Ruger Super Blackhawk.

The first handgun I ever bought was a Ruger Super Blackhawk (I still own it). I bought the Ruger first because the guy needed the $$$ and I got it chceap. A few months later I bought a Norinco 1911. Again the Norinco was a purchase of oportunity as my PLT Sgt needed the $$$.

Fast forward 15yrs... I haven't change things very much. My EDC is a COLT Detective Special or a COLT Officers ACP.

I started handguns with a new High Standard .22 semi-auto and continue to prefer autos. I used to do a lot of handgun hunting/camping/hiking/canoeing and always had fewer problems with a semi-auto.

I currently have a selection of:
  • Glock
  • HK
  • Makarov
  • Ruger (including a Single-Six and Vaquero revolvers)
  • Sig Sauer
  • Springfield Armory
  • Walther
I haven't tried any S&W since several bad experiences with first and second generation model 39's, decades ago. I should probably try some of their new models...
