Guns you paid way too much for, but don't regret it

I have an AMT .44 Auto Mag. I had lusted for one ever since I first saw pictures in one of the gun digests in 1983 or 1984.

They were always more expensive than I could manage. So a few years ago I built one out of parts over a couple of years, like Johnny Cash's Cadillac. An Auto Mag has a lot of parts; (*) I tracked each and every one down and bought them as I got the money. (yes, I'd tried saving the money to just buy a working gun; that always got sucked away for cancer surgery, a new roof, extended unemployment, or other penny-ante complications life keeps throwing my way...)

So, for only 50% more than it would have cost to buy one when I started, I got an Auto Mag. Though prices have gone up enough recently that I can figure I almost broke even...

(*) it has SIXTEEN different springs inside, and weird little single-use lock rings, and a Lahti-style "accelerator" for the rotary bolt, and an FCG and safety mechanism that doesn't look all *that* complicated until you realize it's for a single-action pistol and not some DA-with-decocker monstrosity...

Bought a Ruger Blackhawk in 327 FM awhile back. Had to give more than MSRP by a good bit but it’s a two tone, stainless with blued cylinder and ejector housing and they didn’t make but 60 some odd of them. I’d buy another at the same price today.
