What are the guns that you regret letting get away for whatever reason?

I let many go starting around 2005 cause life happened.

I had to sell a Marlin 1894CS in 357 magnum which kills me to this day. If I knew it would be so hard to replace, and so expensive now, I'd have hung on to it.

A 4" 686 no dash.
A 6" 586-4.
A 4" Kimber Raptor in 9MM.
A Sako .22 Hornet. (This one really hurts)

Probably a couple more.

  • S&W M1917 - Bought it in the '80s when I was in the Army. Traded it for [I think] a 4" Model 29-2.
  • Colt Official Police - Bought it in the '80s when I was in the Army. Traded it for something else. No big deal; it's not like Colt's going to stop making revolvers, right? Ironically, long after I got out of the Army and moved a couple of times, the store to which I traded it found me through the Army Locator Service because it turned out to be stolen. BATF wanted to know how I'd gotten it (another local store, on a 4473).
  • St. Etienne marked Walther PPK/S - Sold it to a friend. He still has it, although he never shoots or carries it. He's so broke, he can't afford to pay attention. I might get it back, either for cash, or in trade for a DSLR and a bunch of accessories.

The .357 NM blackhawk i got from a friend in CO. Sold it way to cheap to the store i got my sp101 from... wife said i had to get rid of one before buying a new one. Super sad face.

That was my thinking as well. Its not like Marlin will stop making 357 mag 1894s.

I actually let go of a few guns thinking I'd be able to get them again, and then they were discontinued

Every single gun I've ever sold I regretted it later. I justify the sale in my head at the time, but every time without fail, I regret it.

I found my old 8mm Mauser dies a month or so back, found a box of 20 empties and loaded up some rounds. Opened up one of my safes and the Nazi marked K98 was gone. Then it hit me, I sold it.

I regret all my sales. None have earned me enough profit not to.

Out of about a dozen (used as cash for other guns), just the Russian .380 Makarov.
It was somehow immune to corrosion with summer carry in the IWB Remora and I don't have any holster which can protect my nicer handguns (100% German Sigs, CZ PCR) from sweat.

You mean somebody actually gets rid of a gun?? Years ago I bought a HI Point,, really liked it, but my LGS talked me to believing it wasn’t a good choice for self defense so traded it for a Ruger,,,,hmmm, which one,,, I still have it and love tit,, the Ruger, that is,, bought another Hi-Point, and have never gotten rid of a gun since.

Yugo Tokarev w/o the import safety. Sold it thinking I could easily get another one just like it. Wrong!
Walther/Inter Arms PPK/S I had for twenty years. Was thinking about using it as part of a trade for a Coonan .357 but that didn't work out. Young deputy where I worked at the time told me that it was a firearm he always wanted. In a moment of weakness I sold it to him on a installment plan which he paid off. Regretted it the moment it left my fingers,
For some reason I had bad vibes when my 75 year old father "borrowed" my pristine pinned Model 19 Smith when he moved to Galveston. My plan was to pick it up when the extended family met that year for Thanksgiving. Hurricane Ike beat me to it. Probably buried under 20 feet of sand now.

Hi...
Several unfortunately..mostly due to a divorce back in the late 1980s.

A very nice 12ga. Browning autoloader.
An extremely accurate Sako L579 in .243( took me until last year to find another as nice...still evaluating if it is as accurate as it's predecessor. It does have potential.
A Ruger SRH in.44Mag with a 9-1/2" barrel.
A Remington M700 custom .30/06.
A Remington 870 12ga pump shotgun.
A SA 1911 .45ACP.

I also once traded a POS Taurus .357 rev olver that spit lead out the cylinder gap on every shot... don't miss that one at all.

I think I added up once that I have sold 30 guns. One was a Maverick 88. I missed it, and bought another. Remembered why I sold the first one (I personally don't have any use for a shotgun), and sold the replacement. The only one I still regret, was my first firearm purchase, a Beretta 92FS. Sold it because it wouldn't fit in the glove box of a 1995 Mustang, and used the money to close on my first house. Still trying to decide if I want to replace it, or enjoy what I already have, which will carry more, or bigger, but in a lighter package...

I’ve traded one gun and sold one. Traded a 92FS with cash for a new XD-45 with thumb safety. Good trade. But I did really like that 92.

Sold a Marlin 22 mag to a friend because I didn’t use it and he wanted a truck gun.

Other than that, I keep my guns. I don’t have that many. Maybe 20. I’d have to look in my safes to be sure. But when I buy a gun, I buy it for keeping.

I have a couple of friends that are always trading at gun shows. I lurk in the background and offer to match what ever the gun show seller will give them in trade. I have gotten a lot of nice guns this way. My friends would actually have me get their guns for a ridiculous price than the gun show guys.

Guns I have sold? 30 years ago I traded a Ruger P85 for the Beretta 92 INOX that I still own. Sold a Rem 870 to a friend... I ALWAYS short stroked that stupid shot gun. Uhhh... I think those are the only guns I have ever sold in the past 30 years. I don't really miss either of them.

Saiga 7.62 X39. Bought it years ago when it was cheap. Decided I wanted to rid myself of the whole caliber and sold last year along with a Russian SKS. Should have kept the Saiga just to have back. Don't care about the SKS...I never did see the attraction of that gun.

Ruger #1v 25/06, Bicentennial marked (200th year of America's Liberty), 6 x 24 Bausch & Lomb Balvar scope.

I can’t think of any but I can think of a few that I don’t miss. I have sold some too cheap in the past but that was because I didn’t like them at the time and that’s what they went for back then.

Interarms-imported Walther PPK/, and Smith and Wesson 659, both of which were let go after I got out of LE, during some tight times while I was in school for my current profession. I miss the Walther more than the 659.

S&W Model 66-4 2.5" ... I was thinking, yeah, I'll always be able to pick one up later on the used market (sure, with bank-vault lock-up and tuned trigger) ...
An inherited pre-Model 10 that probably had never been fired (faint turn line and impeccable bluing) before I put just a few cylinders through it ... If I knew then what I know now ...
Like the OP, a Marlin 1894 in .357 ... boy, was I stupid ...
An original (pre-Series 80) LW Commander from the actual '70s ... again, boy, was I stupid.
A Taurus PT-92 AFS-D, my first 9mm ever that I personally bought (thus totally a sentimental pick), and it was a gem ...
A factory stainless Colt's CCO (Officer's slide, full-size grip) ... it ran 100% for a short-barreled 1911, great carry pistol and was accurate as hell ...
A Star Firestar (.40 S&W) and a Star PD (.45 ACP), both reliable, concealable, accurate and cool to boot ... the Spanish pistols are classics, IMO.
My first issued S&W 5906 with the arched backstrap ... heavy as hell, but accurate and reliable and also just a cool pistola ...

For those that only mention one, or two, or three guns ... I guess I took a lot longer to figure stuff out than y'all did ...
