While I sympathize with the sentiment here, it seems to me that there is actually a pretty limited market for the long slide with optic cut, simply because the chief benefit of the long slide- longer sight radius- is obviated by the presence of a reflex sight. It's arguable that the sight extension HK recently introduced is actually a better solution, but that does add the cost of a threaded barrel to the package. One could argue that a compensated normal VP with a reflex sight is going to be a better performer for gun games than a longslide version.

But of course a longslide OR would be cool looking to many and bought by some.

I agree that the appearance would be great, but it is more than just appearance or sight radius. I think it is shortsighted to lump sales of these kinds of pistols only to the competitive buyer. There are many who will purchase a long slide, high quality, optic ready handgun that will never compete in a game. Some may never put an optic on it, but the option is there.


While long sight radius argument may be true, I think the G34 MOS, S&W Core, Walther Q5 Match, and the CZ P10F are doing rather well for a "limited market." Think about the increase in accuracy with HK's O-ring barrel at longer distances combined with the aiming advantages of an optic. At least the firearms referenced give the buyer the option of using an optic or not. HK's current longslide provides no such option in a market where other manufacturers are already providing the option. The lack of optic capability was the elephant in the room when it was released at SHOT 2019. They are behind and they know it.

This is still America. People can vote with their dollars for the products they like. Personally, I'm not voting for a 2020 VP-9 (price varies), plus a threaded barrel ($199) and a Comp Tracker ($119.99). Others manufacturers are offering complete packages, while HK is offering a workaround to their present system. However, I would vote for a standalone O-ring barreled, long slide, optic ready VP-9.
