Nothing really exciting but I had to call the police the other day. I was driving on my street with a friend in the car and see someone sprinting down the road. Mind you, it is raining pretty well out. I could tell this guy was not out exercising, but didn't rule out running for transportation. When he notices I am on the road, he stops running and walks as straight as possible. Seemed like he was feeling pretty guilty. I pass him slowly and continue slow because he is headed towards my house. In my left mirror I see him move a handgun from his jacket pocket, to jeans, allowing the grip to be visible. To me this was a show of force, saying to me "keep driving or else" I kept an eye on him and called the police. Described him and what happened, and where he was, He turned down the road and sprinted off. I followed him from a good distance back, while maintaining contact with 911. He was doing the sprint when he couldn't see any cars bit, and he sprinted into a residence. The residence had people sitting in a car in the driveway, and they didn't visibly acknowledge him. At this point I went inside, and suitably armed myself. I receive a call from RESTRICTED and it is an officer who is in contact with the responding officer. He talks to me and asks specifics. I tell him that I am about 75% sure I saw a handgun, but have no idea if it is a BB gun or anything. Saw a black slide of a semi pistol and the silver of the bolt/receiver. While on the phone with the officer he tells me that they just apprehended the guy and it was in fact an airsoft gun. My guess is that he had drugs or something on him, because I know some of what goes on in the house he ran into, and they don't exactly follow any standards of clean living.

What I learned:
Trust your gut, I knew right away something was awry, before i saw a gun.
LEO don't seem to mind being called even on a hunch.
Look a like weapons can cause big trouble, dumb idea to carry one.

What do you guys think?

Thanks for letting me share

Well.

If I saw that in my area the whole town would have had LEO's on him in moments..,.. if he didnt get shot first.

Good call.

But.. I wonder what caused him to exhibit that behavior in the very beginning?

When I started reading this, I thought that he had a legal CHL and that he thought you were casing him. If I was out running and a stranger started showing a lot of interest in me and where I was going, I'd be concerned.

Last hunch I called on....

We live in the country on a dead end road and a car pulled up, stopped N parked in front of my house at about 02:00 I got up .45 in hand looked out the window for about 30 seconds before calling the police...:uhoh:

The state boys were here in less than 3 minutes, light flashing tires squealing they had backup and surrounded the car...:what:

Turns out that they received another call about 2 minutes after mine....

Someone tried to break into a neighbors house and rape his teenage daughter...:fire:

He left his friend sitting in his car in front of my place (no keys)...:neener:

N went springing across the fields running form the police that were here before he could get back to his car...

Friend tried to tell the cops he was just resting and was going to leave, but could not do so when the cops asked him to produce the car keys.....

Yeah he was towed, his friend arrested n so was he when he got home...:D

I think that is was a good thing that you called the police. I would have done the same thing if I saw something like that.

Yep calling the police was a good idea. They get paid to confront people like that.

Lately a group of teens had begun to congregate around a neighbor's house. I already knew there was at least a little pot smoking/exchanging going on so I kept an eye out.

One day one of them retrieved what looked like a small, chrome semiautomatic pistol from his car and started displaying it to the others. You bet I called the cops.

As it turns out, it was a BB gun and they let him go but I wasn't having that BS going down in my neighborhood. Apparently, the police told him if there had been BBs in the gun they would have arrested him. I thought that was weird, but the problem was solved.
