I use a T/C Contender in .223 and 6.8 SPC and a Ruger Flat top .44 mag.

Only ever got one, unconfirmed distance. Would guess 75 yards.
I have a BFR 10" in 500 but don't feel that I am good enough with it yet to take it into the woods.

Other than birds and longer range varmints, allmost all of my hunting is with a handgun. And I don't have to get as close as the archers do.

I have taken deer with a .45 Colt, both a Ruger Blackhawk and a Colt New Service. And I have taken a lot of small game with a .357, loaded with powder-puff .38 Specials. But most of my handgun hunting nowadays is for squirrels with my Colt Woodsman.
