I am looking to get a handgun safe for a single pistol and one or two clips. This is solely for self defense. I am not too concerned about mounting options, but am focused on ease of use and fast access/opening. Please let me know any particular units you may suggest.

To begin with, it will eventually get pointed out, but they are magazines, not clips. Second, mods may want to move this to the handgun forum.

Ok, all that said...for self-defense purposes, you're going to want something that operates without keys and by touch. You can't count on having light and you wouldn't want to if you could. It tells bad guys, "hey, I'm right here." You don't want it to require a key because you don't want to increase the amount of things you need to open it. You want to be able to get to it and open it with as few steps in between. More steps equals more opportunities for failure. With all that in mind, I recommend GunVault Mini or the likes:

They can be had for under $100. They can be operated by key, but do not require it. You can set the four button combo to whatever you like. You can easily mount it to the floor or other secure location (so they don't just steal your vault and open it later). All in all, a great package for your needs.

I'm with them... +1 to the gunvault. I have one and it have been excellent.. Happy Hunting!!!

I've had my Gunvault for years now, bolted discreetly near my bed. I can whole-heartedly recommend it. Excellent product.

Provides virtually instantaneous access in the dark. Some people leave theirs open while they sleep, only locking it when they leave the vicinity. You have to decide based on your situation. But do get one.

And if you do, I recommend keeping the combination simple, and practicing until your finger's memory can open it without reference to your brain's memory.
