Always wanted a third model Dragoon. Just never had one appear at the right time.

Now the proud owner of one new, unfired, USFA Third Model Dragoon. :D

Photos after receipt of box containing same.

Anyone else have any stories about the (rare) USFA cap & ball stuff? It's fairly uncommon and reputed to be superb in fit and finish.

Congratulations Mr. Sutton. That model is on my wish list too.

^^

Yeah... it was. I probably overpaid,as it's more than you can buy a second gen Colt for, but the reputation of USFA and the rarity of the thing was compelling. It'll be interesting to see, the finish level of these is supposed to be superb. How many did USFA build? 40? 50? Not many, for sure.

Nah, I don't think you overpaid. They made very few of them and they're better guns than the 2nd and 3rd generation Colt's. I would've bought it at that price but just couldn't swing it right now. Mostly just watched it to see how much it would go for.

Well, it's in good hands. Frankly I wish it were slightly more used so I could shoot it without guilt. Decisions, decisions... to preserve it or shoot the crap outta it. Probably make it a safe queen. Time to look for a proper case and accoputrements for it.

Like to find other USFA cap and ball's to join it. Might be an interesting way for the collecting gene to be expressed.

Aw come on Will, put it in a glass topped case. That way people can look at it without putting their sticky grimy fingers all over it. :)

They made a few cartridge conversions too but those are even harder to find. Maybe some day I'll find one at a time when I have the money to get it.
