Hard Plastic Concealed Weapon Permits

I always wondered why they just don't combine the DL and the CHL on to one card. Here in Texas are CHL look pretty much just like are DL do.

That couldn't happen here in Kentucky because the are issued by different offices. Your DL comes from the Circuit Clerk and the CDW permit is issued through the county Sheriff's Office.

Ours are hard plastic, but the printing is a bit fragile. I stick a big plain label on the back and write the abbreviations of all the states that we have reciprocity with on it. Then I wrap the whole thing with a strip of heavy clear shipping tape. Since ours are good for six years it's probably worth a couple of minutes of effort to protect it.

Sam1911: You have to get with the program. I just renewed my Pa CCL in March, and I was digitally photographed right in the Montgomery County (Pa) Sheriff's office and recieved my updated license sealed in plastic five minutes later. Five years ago, I did have to supply two passport sized photos when renewing. I'm assuming that your license has not expired recently. JFYI. All others members; Pa is a shall issue state and issues a CCL for five years for 20.00. It is quite similar to our drivers license. Quite a bargin these days.

Or do you think I could get away with using just my CHL for a DL because it has both license numbers on it and all the same information?
Nah, that would be way too efficient for a governmental agency.

My Oregon CHL looks the same as a drivers license. This is one more reason why you shouldn't live in WA... (just kidding you, a little NW rivalry). I would call the sheriff and see if laminating it will void the license or if it's ok. Another thing you could do is get a separate holder for it (like you get for a ski pass) and wear it around your neck/keep it in the pocket outside your wallet.

I like seeing some of those old permits. Here in Oregon, I think the first female detective in the U.S. (Portland) was granted a handwritten permit from the Governor. Those were rough times and she did good work.
