How Do you Carry your CCW permit?

That CCW permit sucks! Reminds me of the FBI fingerprint card.
Oregon's is the same size and look as the DL and IIRC was $60. I'd say the extra $5 was wisely spent on a normal looking card.

I would like you to know that I have a Washington State CPL and that I am carrying
Are they tied to your driver's license? Oregon CHL carriers aren't required to inform either but I found out that info comes up when they run your drivers license, so I'm not sure if I should inform them ahead of time out of courtesy or not. Once I was asked if I was carrying at the time, the other times they didn't bring it up (oddly enough the one time I was asked was the only time I wasn't carrying).

@Stophel, I've had the same thought but ultimately I don't think that's the case. RKBA is in our state constitution and we're one of the original shall-issue states. It just doesn't seem to be a high priority to change the format (funding, interest, whatever).

I actually got a couple of responses from the WA DOL already and here are the answers from one of their customer service people (who was very nice and responsive):

"Unfortunately there are no plans to change the current format of the
CPL. I'm not sure if you're aware or not that you can fold it in half
and laminate it, to better fit your wallet and for durability."

"We are always looking for ways of improvement, but at this time there
isn't a way for us to change the current format. But we do keep a list
of suggestions and this is one that will be re-added."

Hey, looks like at least we got the suggestion re-added to their list of suggestions! :)

I always trim the edges and radius the corners of my WA permits, fold them in half, and laminate them. You can trim quite a bit off the edges before clipping off any words. When you sign the card, make your signature small and/or low and you can trim off even more. :) Every bit helps! Rounding off the corners lets you round off the lamination as well so the permit is less "pokey" to your wallet. Trimmed down and radiused mine just barely fits in a credit card slot and every word is still readable. On my next permit I'm going to fold the writing underneath the "licensing authority" signature inside (tri-fold) prior to laminating and can make it truly credit card size that way. The law says you have to carry the permit, not that it has to be fully readable without cutting the lamination. The crap on the bottom is just instructions to the licensee anyway! I'm going to be bummed when my permit with U.S. "drug czar" Gil Kerlikowski's chief of police stamp expires. :scrutiny:

If I told you that my first two WA permits had my trigger fingerprints on them I'd be giving away my age.... :what:

How is it that my WA permit has been laminated since i have had it. My renewal was laminated and it fits just right in mmy wallet. It is a bit karger then my DL or Mil ID but still fits

I got my first Washington CPL back in 1981. I was bummed when the redesign eliminated the fingerprints. I always hoped that they would help identify my body if I had an accident during snowshoeing or something.

I have been folding and laminating mine for years. Buying that cheap laminator at Costco all those years ago was a great return on investment. I also like to laminate topo maps for my favorite hikes.

*sigh*

Now when they start looking for more ways to bring $$ into the counties (which they're doing like crazy in this crisis), you've given them another option: make a few cheap, basically meaningless changes to a piece of paper and charge another $10-$20 for it. And it may take longer to get them! Mine took a week to come.

Or even worse, they'll make us get our pics taken for it....just one more hoop to jump thru.

I want to see CC become more casual and more mainstream...not more highly and formally documented. You guys act like they are some kind of badge of honor.

Well, mine took 30 days (max allowable by state law) -- it just depends on your issuing agency. Hey, I was just trying to help getting the CPL down to a manageable size; obviously enough people think it's awkward. A badge of honor it is not. :)
