Same Here In Jefferson County (B'ham) AL

When the NCIC check comes back complete, the copier spits out your CCW
license; then you can choose too get it laminated, for an extra $2.50 making
the total $10.00 per year~!

Well in Morgan County we get the nice plastic ones that resemble the driver's license!
Sorry to hear Jefferson Cty. is stuck in 1962.:uhoh:

"Virginia does the same thing."

As far as I know, every jurisdiction uses paper, but there's no mandated standard for each city or county clerk of the court to follow. The City of Richmond's license is pretty good paper. :) Maybe they've changed that since I got mine.

I buy some sticky plastic stuff at the gun store for $1 and coat the license.

NY used to be all flimsy paper permits. Many counties have finally moved on to plastic cards... and you need to carry multiples if all your registered handguns don't fit onto one card.

My CA ccw permits are only good for two years. Kinda hard to wear out in that time.

Yep, but they are still flimsy. The call them "rice paper" around here. Sheriff's office recommends laminating a copy, not the original since it makes it impossible to make changes.

I carry mine in a plastic baseball card protective sleeve. Works fine.

In TN they are made from the same thing as drivers licenses. My permit number is even the same as my DL number.

That sucks - that means the police have the same database - here in FL, the dept of Agriculture issues CCW, and they are not connected to the DL list in any way - in fact we do not have to declare if stopped

much nicer scenario

In New York State, we have both---paper and plastic. At your option, you may continue to use the paper permits---one permit for each individual handgun you own. Or, you may choose to consolidate them on one or more plastic card(s) that lists all of them. The lettering on the cards is so tiny that it reminds me of writing The Lord's Prayer on the head of a pin, and if you own lots of guns, when one card fills up you need to carry two (or more) plastic cards.

Bottom line is that each gun---even black powder if you choose to actually shoot them---is registered and listed on your permit. If you lose your permit, somebody gets a list of every handgun (including serial number) you own, not to mention your name and address.

My only concern with having a combined DL/CHL would be -as I've said before - a LOT of people who see my DL don't NEED to know that I'm carrying. (The service desk lady at Wally World, for instance).

Lee County, AL gives you both. I get a paper one that I keep in my vehicle with my registration and insurance, and a hard plastic one that stays in my wallet. This way, if I'm out and about and forget my wallet (but never my pistol) I can still carry in my vehicle without breaking any laws (vehicle is considered "concealed"here).

In Alabama we have to renew every year - quite a nuisance, but we can get a plastic photo id ccw and yes you can buy a firearm with just the ccw and no DL.

I went to Fedex Office with mine. They reduced it, copied it to a heavier paper stock and laminated it. It's almost like my DL now.

I don't know if any Virginia localities issue plastic permits or not. I've never seen one, but I haven't seen a permit from each city and county. I know the state issues the same paper fishing license everywhere and I've never heard anybody cry about that.

The new state driver's license is expensive with its see-through holographic picture that shows your face from both sides and the little security features and all that rot. Then they mail it to you and leave it in the mailbox. :banghead: It's laser engraved polycarbonate fwiw. I wonder if it's bulletproof.

i cut mine in half, and put it back to back, then laminate it. About the size of a credit card, and this is considered acceptable in washington state. Mine lasts all five years just fine this way.

In Idaho, at least in Boise we go through the Sheriff's office. The CCW card is the same material as a DL and even uses the same DL number.

Actually, the printing on the CCW seems to be of better quality than the DL. I also had to get finger printed as well through the fancy touch pad scanner thing.

I kind of like having 2 separate cards. If I lose my DL accidentally, I can still get into bars with my CCW or if I get pulled over the LEO can run my CCW as well. If I lose my wallet, well then I'm screwed.

AZ permit.

Must be presented with an official photo ID, as well.

No firearms are listed on it, and you may carry any lawful weapon, (not necessarily firearm), concealed with it...or without it, being a Constitutional Carry state. It just makes some things easier.

My Wyoming one is plastic just like a drivers license or credit card. Photo ID, personal info. It's really handy when I need two government issued photo IDs for something.

The WA permits are oversized too, so they won't fit where a credit card or a license will. :( Whenever I'm issued a new one I very carefully fold it and trim as much off the edges as possible with scissors without trimming off any writing. I also radius the corners a bit. Then have it laminated at Kinko's (FedEx Office, whatever).

I read that the Washington permits will soon be the size of the WA State drivers license, I don't know when they are supposed to start, but once they do I may have to get a duplicate to replace the one my washing machine ate.

KS State Dept of Revenue DL valid for 6-years from DOB. Photo taken at time of issue at DL office. Size of Credit Card.

KS Attorney General CHL valid for 4-years from date of issue. Photo taken at time of issue at DL office. Same design, size and number as DL.

NH Dept. of Safety non-res P/R License valid for 5-years from date of issue. No photo. Hard plastic same size as CC.

PA Centre County non-res License to Carry Firearm valid for 5-years. No photo. 3" x 5.4" paper which I had laminated.

KS was originally going to use same ID for both DL and CHL but DL is valid for 6- years and CHL is valid for 4-years. Change of address notify DOR within 10-days for DL, notify AG within 30-days for CHL.
