Hardest handgun for you to shoot well?

My skills would go to pot too if I only shot 5,000 rounds per year.

I suspect that shooting 5,000 round per year would still put you in the top 1% of American shooters in sheer volume of practice. That's still almost 100 round per week.

I'm not very good with double action triggers but if I'm not in a hurry I can do well enough with them. The popular handgun that I just can't shoot is the 1911. I can pick one up and knock the center out of a target with a mag or two if I *really* want to, but a heavy price will be paid for several days after. I dislocated the middle joint of my right thumb about 25 years ago. The way a 1911 fits my hand the frame puts pressure in exactly the wrong place when the gun is fired and it's just plain excruciating. Two mags of 230 grain through a 1911 and I can't hold a pencil to write for two or three days. :(

Good to see that you're still keeping them in the ten ring, Peter! I just happened to check the forums (It's been a long time!).

To answer your question, I have a hard time with the HKP9S.

I don't shoot 40's as good as 9's but I can stay in the black with most of them if I take my time.

BUT, I have S & W 29 4" from the 80's I bought for Fly Fishing Bear Protection. I shoot 320 grain +P+'s out of it and fire it about twice a year to see if I can his something with it. The recoil is brutal. After about shot #3 I'm all over the place with that gun. But I doubt a big costal AK brownie would give me enough time to get off more than 2 rounds anyway. :D

Anything too small for my big hands. A J frame is ok but not great but I really prefer 1911's and double stack XD's.

DA revolvers and my XDS 45. I have 4 XD's, shoot them all well EXCEPT, the XDS 45.

Hi...

I shoot most firearms pretty well. I should because I shot handguns competitively for several years back in the 1980s.

I own and shoot all types of handguns, but I have a few that are just tough to shoot accurately.

One is a Cimarron Mason-Richards Open-top conversion in .38Special. Beautiful revolver...very small practically non-existent sights. Great fun to shoot, just hard to hit anything with.

Second is my WWII bring back German Luger. Once again, very small sights. Lots of stuff going on with that toggle-action. Fun to shoot an historical firearm.

And, third, my nickel-plated Webley top-break that was re-chambered by someone somewhere to .45Colt. My gunsmith says it is safe to shoot with factory level loads, but nobody can hit any thing with it. It will keyhole cast lead bullets at anything much past 7 yards.

The barrel is marked .476, so those .45 lead bullets are just skidding down the barrel.
Nice old revolver...everybody wants to shoot it when I take it to the range, but no one can hit a paper bag with it from inside the bag.

Worst handgun for me.....Beretta 96D

Carried one on duty for a year and a half. Qaulified everytime, but just barely. Minimum quals were 350/500. I would regularly score 380-390. 12 pound trigger pull and super long. Quality firearm, but not for me. We switched to M&P40s and my first qual was a 450/500. Better trigger, shorter pull. Plus, the finish on the Beretta hated the saltwater environment I worked near.

Walther P1. I'm not sure the gun itself isn't just a lemon, but I can't hit a darned thing with that gun.

Thinking about selling it to to fund a PPX (I'd like to keep a Walther - but that P1 is so bad that I can't imagine ever using it - even for plinking). It seems a shame since the P1 has "history" behind it, but it's just not useful to me.

In my modest collection, its the Walther PPQ in 9mm. The trigger is great... and I can dry fire it smoothly.... but the groups I shoot at the range dont impress me. My other hand guns - Single Six, 1911, and Buckmark - I shoot with what I consider a reasonable level of accuracy. All I can figure is the lighter weight of the PPQ is what Im still getting accustomed to. Or possibly the cheap Tula crap ammo I feed it, but that stuff works ok (in different caliber, obviously) in the 1911. That reminds me I need to try out some brass-cased federal ammo next time I go....

Gotta be a KelTec P3AT! I can hit the target most of the time but I'm all over it. No consistency at all.

Yep everything has been problematic since I stopped shooting fifty two thousand rounds a year. My skills are diminished!

One of the worst guns I've shot is the Sig Mosquito. One of the worst triggers on the planet.
I've been away from my handguns for almost a year. Everything gives me fits right now.
OP, I'll be tickled if I get to shoot 5,000 rounds this year.

Any plastic double-stack with a grip like a Glock. When you shoot well with one, you can take all the credit. It sure wasn't due to any advantage of the Glock.

I could never get good results from my Blackhawk .44mag,never fit my hand right. Next on the "would not fit" list is the Springfeild XDM. I really wanted that gun to shoot, but I never could find a comfortable grasp. Sold them both.

If the gun won't fit, you must liquit. Date.
