Has anyone "special ordered" a gun from walmart?

I've ordered from them before, usually at prices below market. So far so good. But as time goes by they have less and less to choose from, and the prices are nearly regular retail. But still just enough savings to justify going through them.

Only have 2 questionable experiences.

One, I had a Browning T Bolt on order for 6 months, never came in and I cancelled my end of the order. The store left it on their order, as they would just put it in the case when it showed up. I asked one of the guys in sporting goods 3 or 4 months later if it ever came in. Nope.

The other one, was a Marlin lever gun. It came in in just a couple of weeks. It looked like a crew of trunk monkeys handled every part of the way. I refused it, got my money back, and they shipped it back to Marlin for repair.

The stores that continue to sell guns have a special order gun catalog at the sporting goods counter. Just ask to look at it.

Posts: 17 hey woof. You can call and they can pull it up on their computers and tell you over the phone...

As far as small gun stores go, I noticed they are about the same as the larger ones such as cabellas, sportsmans, and bass proshops; however wally world is still 30 bucks cheaper. (which I can spend that 30 towards a scope).

Im in the same boat. I like supporting local shops but the ones ive gone to didn't seem very polite. Im leaning towards cabellas. They will match anyones prices including wallworlds as long as it's in stock.
I'm in the thought I went to the local gun shop 1st and bought a savage mk II
had issues Failure to feed, and FTE tried 3 different bulk ammo and did it on all 3 types the gun shop said we stand behind them so they said to bring it back 10 days later said have had a chance to get to it don't know when they would but the owner of the shop makes you feel like he's doing you a favor that he let you in the door.... that kind of demeanor, and yes it was used and i spent 20.00 more there used than a new at WM but wanted to keep the local shop supported but I don't need the crap that goes with it his 2 sales people are really knowledgeable and always willing to give a person a great opinion on reloading or arms but seem to be unnerved under his rule I just want service-- LIKE THEY WANT ME TO COME BACK. Thats all not like he's doing me a favor by lack of basic treatment not just to me but others as well.... This is what I think so I'll spend my money to a place that is willing to treat me as a customer, not as if my life depended on them

so I put on special order on a marlin 981t said about 4 days on orders and no shipping cost like the gunshop and 10.00 cheaper if I have a problem with it i'll send it back to the mfg....

I did a special order once. It was a positive experience. It took awhile to arrive, but I don't consider it WM's fault.

What really compels me to post is that I had problems with the rifle and WM was very good about sending it back to the manufacturer for repair. I've actually had a harder time about such an issue with a local gun shop that theoretically is supposed to provide better service on paper.

I avoid Wal-marts like the plague. Other than ammo, I try not to buy ANYTHING from them. Since they don't ever seem to have any of that nowadays, I haven't bought anything from them in months. The only reason I make an exception for ammo is their hours and it's about the only thing they have that isn't made in China.

Wal Mart almost killed my mom several years ago. They were moving one of those huge shelving units and it fell over on top of my mom. Broke her shoulder and knocked her out briefly. Then they took her in a back room, wouldn't let her sit down, and were trying to get her to sign stuff. Thanks to their team of paid attack dogs and some other things that are too in deapth for this post, she got her medical bills paid and that was it.

I special ordered a marlin 7000 from walmart a long time ago and it went well. Was there in a week or two and had no troubles getting it.
