Has pop culture ever made you want a gun you never wanted before?

+1 on the Bren Ten from Miami Vice!!!

Gunsmoke made me want stag grips for whatever pistol I had. I did put those on a Blackhawk.

Wanted: Dead or Alive made me really, really want a cut down Winchester. Still want it. Don't know what I'd do with it. Anyway, if they ever make it in stainless I might spring for one.

Lawman reruns have gotten me thinking quite a bit about a Colt SAA or Vaquero...probably more the Colt at this stage of my life.

And I've owned a Colt Government Model and a Beretta 92FS in the past just because I wanted something the military had used. Figured if the military liked 'em, they must some fine weapons.

Being a bit young.

The Rocketeer made me want a 1911.

Tombstone got me interested in big bore revolvers.

For some reason while watching Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade growing up I'd always assumed he had a Schofield because of the beach scene (later learned it was a Webley, but still wanted a Schofield instead). Then 3:10 to Yuma came along and I've had full blown lust for one ever since.

Quigley Down Under has made me lust after a Sharps ever since seeing it. Unfortunately Shiloh Sharps rifles are rather pricey and have a 2-3 year wait on orders for new rifles, last I checked.

It's generally the other way around with me.

I'll get into a gun and then I'll check IMFDB to see what movies, shows, and games it's in.

A-Team (and Romancing the Stone)= Mini-14
Tombstone (and a bunch of other westerns, but Tombstone was primary) = Ruger Vaquero
Lethal Weapon and Die Hard = Beretta 92
Jeremiah Johnson (at least partly responsible for) =.50 caliber Hawken

I'm trying to remember if The Fugitive (movie) had any influence on my buying a Glock; I think I already had one by that point.

I still want the snubby S&W .357 stainless from The River Wild. And the left-handed 870 from Romancing the Stone. And the Henry rifles from Silverado. And a Sharps from Quigley. And a Schofield from Unforgiven. :)

History is a much greater temptress for me than pop culture. If I see a good movie or read a good history from a certain period, I do start craving firearms of that period or at least reproductions.

Right now I'm reading a lot of WWI history and am still on the quest for an 1886 Lebel, but I keep getting beat in the auctions.

"Streets of Fire (1984)"

Now that was a classic, unique film. IIRC the guy had a Marlin 336 takedown. There have been many times in the summer when the hogs are roaring out on the street when I daydreamed of replicating a certain scene from that film ;-)

I would say no but ever since reading The Life of Billy Dixon, I've been searching for a sharps 50-90. AKA the Big 50.

I'll have one someday, probably want ever go buffalo hunting with it but I will try that 1538 yard shot.

Heck no--I'm Above It!

I refuse to be influenced by a bunch of Hollywood movies! Yeah, right ;)--I have to admit to have fallen prey. I remember when I was a kid (and honestly it still applies today) I was watching with my Dad "The Longest Day" and I marveled at all of the different weaponry. But the one that really caught my eye (and I would actually buy one today for nostalgia as well as a collection piece if the price were right) was the M3 "Grease Gun" .45 ACP. I know that most of you are thinking 'why not the Thompson.' The Grease Gun just caught my fancy (much like the British Sten) and has ever since. What a practical and cheap to boot little guy it was!

Of course, that's the one that always comes to mind when I see threads like this but there are others as well.

-Cheers

The Rifleman, made me fall in love with lever action rifles, a fascination that remains to this day, since I own four in different calibers. The bad news is they are Marlins not Winchesters but none the less it all goes back to watching reruns of The Rifleman

If I remember, he shoots down a helicopter with it.

No, he shots the bad guy who drops the hand grenade that blows up the chopper. You need to watch those films again.

Me, I don't subscrbe to pop culture, just because I owned the Beretta, Walther PPK and the AR-7.

As a famed philosopher once said "What Me Worry"

Jim

AR-7 was used in "From Russia with Love (1963)" to allegedly shoot down a helicopter. Very neat trick with a .22LR chambered takedown rifle with iron sights! Guess that's why they call the movie industry Hollyweird :) (Yes, I know Bond was a UK production...)

I'd love it if someone would make a wood stock for them like in the movie. Heck, make the fitted briefcase and stock and sell them as a set. I imagine they'd sell a few to Bond fans.

My tastes normally run towards utilitarian black plastic and blued steel, but I really want this:

I just HAD to buy that Phased Plasma Rifle in the 40 Watt Range. Had to!

A Millennium Falcon gun turret or the aircraft quad mount in Waterworld, please. Either will do nicely, thank you.

I don't think it's been there in a while, but someone used to bring a quad .50 to Knob Creek not unlike the one in Waterworld. Not sure if it was offered for "rental" but I heard it made a grand show up on that main firing line.

Oh, and the Call Of Duty games just reinforce my desire for a PPSH.
I know I'll never get to play with the full-auto one, and any working one is pretty much above my price range. And the ammo won't be around forever.
But I have blueprints right here, and a lathe and mill in the garage. Now if I only had the time...

There are "full auto shoots" all over the country, but the most notable one is Knob Creek which, while not exactly convenient, is still fairly close to where you are. I'm pretty sure that a full-auto PPSH was one of the rental offerings there...
