I have always had a liking for the look and feel of the Colt open top pocket models particularly the 1862 Police. However I have always hated working on them because Uberti, who is the only game in town, does not put as much attention into their representation of the pocket models and they need a lot of attention and are tedious to work on.
I had seen several fellows commenting favorably on Jackrabbit1957 work so I contacted him to see if he worked on the pocket models and he indicated he did and after a back and forth Q/A I decided to send him two 1862 Police models that I had recently purchased for his complete tune. I was fortunate to get a good place in the que and he advised about a week and a half turn around time.
He was good to his word and a week and a half after he received them he notified me they were on the way back. I received them today and I couldn't be more pleased. All of the inherent Uberti problems had been corrected and upgrades done. It is hard to believe the difference in feel when cycling the pistols between when I sent them to when they were returned.
Each pistol had the arbor length corrected, timing corrected, Rugarized hand spring installed, torsion type bolt and trigger spring installed, bolt guide, cap rake installed, all pivots case hardened, an action shield installed, action stop installed and one pistol had to have a wedge bearing installed to correct a previous owners attempt to correct a factory wedge issue. The B/C gap was set to .002 as I had requested. That is a lot of work for the price he charges an I now have two revolvers that are bullet proof.
Seriously guys you need to treat yourself to a properly set up percussion revolver you will be glad you did. Jackrabbit's prices are reasonable and he lets you know how your job is progressing and the work he does is professional all the way. It doesn't get much better than that.
