Have a VZ... Do I need an AK or 5.56 too?

Considering the possibility of the Democrats pushing semiauto gun bans in the future has me thinking of buying some guns sooner than later.

I have a VZ.58 and it's a terrific rifle.

Frankly, I don't know if there is anything the AK does better. I like the VZ ergonomics and pointability better. Nevertheless, should I still add an AK? If so, why?

I don't have a 5.56 anything. Would I be wise to add something like a Mini-14, AR, or AR-180B instead of another 7.62? I'm not convinced the 5.56 is any better than 7.62x39 for close-in (sub 100 yards) urban SHTF needs. Ammo is of course more expensive right now too.

I agree, unless you just want to add a Kalashnikov-type rifle to your collection, which you may not be able to do later if there is a ban.

Since nothing is on or off the table, and Obama hasn't been coronated yet, if you are worried I'd buy both the guns and mags as counting on either being available later if Obama has veto proof coattails is like counting on the hurricane to miss you instead of taking precautions.

My priority for your next selections would be:

AR in what ever configuration you most prefer, mags are very reasonable now.

AK again whatever config you prefer, mags are still reasonable too.

Beyond this, any semi-auto with more than 5 or 6 round capacity could be banned if the Dems implement their platform's wildest dreams.

For SHTF ammo will be the first thing to run out. Having guns to shoot whatever you can find makes sense, although one could argue that sticking to one caliber and stocking ammo now as deeply as you can afford is a better plan.
