Only once in 36 years. My shoulder harness showed past the lapel of my leather coat in a restaurant. The guy who pegged me was a gun enthusiast, and he just joked about it.

Toaster I live in Illinos. There is no concealed carry.

Illinois is A good place to be from.............. Far from.

I lived there for 35 years. you have my sympathy.

In a local gun shop, the clerk turned around and picked up something from the bottom shelf, and was outed by me. I didn't say anything, I figured he was armed anyhow.
While not completely on topic, I typically find myself spying on those I may believe to be carrying. If I see anyone with a fanny pack, someone with a jacket on while it's in the 70-90s, someone bending at the knees instead of the waist, etc.

My friend had a plumber over his house to do some work, and as the guy was getting on his back to get under a sink his pistol fell out. My friend is a big shooter so he didn't really care, just picked it up and said, "um you dropped this.":D

Not that I'm aware of. No one has ever said anything, and I'm carrying daily at work, and there's a lot of gunners there.

I was born in Chicago, inside city limits, and I agree, it's a great place to be from...

Only once, when I lived in Denver; CCW was a Wilson Combat CQB. I carried it OWB on my right side.

I was walking out of the grocery store and sure enough a strong wind lifts my two cover garments to show the Wilson to a woman and her young daughter :uhoh:.

The mother's face said a thousand words - she was either scared or just didn't know what to make of it.

I smiled and said "it sure is a beautiful day, isn't it :) ?" This changed her entire demeanor from white faced to friendly.

Besides the concealment garment issue, what I learned from that experience is people will react to your reaction. If I made some big deal out of it, she probably would have as well, but smiling, saying a friendly phrase, and making it a non-issue she followed suite.

I'm glad it turned out the way it did, but I don't want a repeat performance!

people have only noticed me carrying if i didnt really try to hard to conceal it. usually this means i was hanging with friends at home.

noone has ever noticed in public. im careful.

No, I am not of full Sicilian descent, and I never made my bones.

If you mean having my CCW discovered, sure I have. Luckily I live in Ohio and we are Constitutionally protected by Open Carry, so CCW really isn't the same worry as in, say, Texas where it's a Class A misdemeanor.

Nope. I make sure to dress appropriately, though. That means a longer t-shirt or an untucked polo shirt. Darker colors also mask it far better than lighter colors. I make sure to inconspicuously pull my shirt down as I stand up to ensure it stays hidden. I'm not the type of person people walk up to and hug, either. I mostly carry ComBloc semi-autos such as a Makarov or P-64, which are very easy guns to conceal. While I theoretically COULD conceal a full-size 1911 or Tokarev, it's neither very comfortable nor a good idea.

I don't get "made," as far as I know, but I have "outed" myself a few times intentionally. Usually, it's when I've been frequenting a place and have gotten to know the staff quite well, and ask the manager/owner if they mind that I'm carrying. I don't even show them the Sig, I just take out the permit. Every single time, they've been 100% fine with it, and a few have even asked me how to get a permit themselves. I also ask friends before I enter their home, out of courtesy.

However, everyone might want to take a good look at the attached image to this post, if they haven't seen it already. Granted, not all may apply to a situation, but it's certainly helped my to overcome some bad habits I developed early on in concealing. :)

I'm not James Bond, but concealed means concealed. I think that most of us take that seriously enough that we don't allow mistakes or outtings to take place routinely, or even on rare occasions.

And some of us livie in areas where open carry is just as kosher as carrying concealed. In such situations, I don't go out of my way to be "concealed" though I meet the legal definition of it. When seriously attempting to remain concealed, I wear IWB. If I'm on my way to the range or somehting though, I strap on my cheapie nylon holster (OWB) and "attempt" to cover it with my hooded sweatshirt. Yeah, it bulges, and an observant person would probably conclude i'm carrying. However, being entirely legal concealed or not, its no concern to me. When I WANT concealment, I take great lengths to know its concealed. However, there are tiomes its not nearly so important to me, and in such cases, I carry as desacribed. That being said, I've never openly been made by anyone, so what may seem painfully obvious to myself oftentimes goes unnoticed by those around me. However, living in the extremely gun-friendly state of SD, I'm not nearly as concerned abvout a "man with a gun" report as people elsewhere might be. Somone noticing I'm armed here is just as likely or moreso, to start up a convo on guns than to feel the need to call the cops.

.

My wife escaped from the Chicago area years ago. She agrees.

She "got made" one day at Wal-Mart. She bent over and the Bersa Firestorm in her pocket fell out and clattered down the aisle a few feet. A fellow standing there, heard it, bent down, did a double take, picked it up and said..."Uhhhh lady...you dropped your...Gun?" and handed it back to her. She thanked him and put it back in her pocket.

She had to admit I was right when I kept telling her she needed a better holster.

I was made at church.... and of all the people, it was a visiting pastor on the Sunday morning he came to candidate

He's from a place very near to my home town so we have quite bit in common and quickly hit it off. While shaking hands and casually talking he inadvertently put his hand on my side, right on top of my piece (pancake under a sweater). He cocked his head a little in surprise and says to me "are you packin' brother?".

I managed to casually step to his side and put my arm on his back (sliding his arm up onto my back and off of my piece) and simply said in a low voice "this probably isn't the place to talk about that".

He nods his head and gives me a knowing smile and that was the end of that.

He's a really nice guy... very affable persoanality... clearly has a heart for the Lord and for people... I hope things work out and he comes to join the ministry team.

Then we can continue that conversation at the range.

The funny thing is, I've made our senior pastor twice.

Sport jacket or not, there's just no way a guy his size can conceal that behemoth G37 of his. :neener:

Had a cop mention to me in a convenience store that my shirt was stuck to the rubbery grip of a revolver. "Hey, your shirt is hung on your revolver, have a good one....."

The gun wasn't exposed, it was just pretty obvious with the shirt wrapped like it was. No more rubber grips for carry :)

Back in the days when non-restricted permits were almost impossible to come by in Michigan unless you knew some one, I was made when picking up a pizza at the local pizza place. The 1911 was in a shoulder holster, when the guy behind the counter saw the gun, he simply said " We give 50% off to cops". Got my discount and always made sure my gun was visable when picking up pizza.

I got made at a wedding. A guy I didn't know introduced himself and as we were shaking hands, he quietly said, "try moving your holster a few inches forward on your belt". Later, at the reception, he conceded that he made me because he knew what to look for.

Actually, unintentionally failing to conceal is a misdemeanor.

Accidental failure to conceal is not a crime. Although, you may still get to take a ride if a prone-to-cry-at-the-sight-of-a-gun-hippy happens to see it.

If you are talking about Open Carry specifically, then yes, that is a great BIG no-no here.

What do I vote if my father is a rabid "carrying a gun is the stupidest mistake you will ever make and you will go to jail and rot because no one ever needs to carry a gun its stupid and so are you" and no amount of "the police do it/it's legal/take the spare tire out of your car and we'll talk/seconds count police are minutes away" logic (trust me, and then some) will change his mind? He's a hunter, but a very stubborn Italian when it comes to his way or the highway. He also supports gun registration and thinks anything with more than a 5 round clip/mag is pointless and stupid because HE has no use for it.

I love him dearly, and we rarely fight (okay we fight but nothing more than the usual father/son why did you buy that stupid radio controlled car for $2000), but I make it a point to open carry everywhere I possibly can because I know it irritates him and there's nothing he can do about it :)

My Mom doesn't really care either way, and aside from having to deal with his hissy fits, thinks its funny.

Anyway, yeah, I've been made, but by choice. I happily open carry and have never had anything but positive responses, then again, I am responsible and mindful of people, and don't go out of my way to cause havoc. Obviously, barring my father. It's almost a sport to see who can irritate the other more... :)

I've never been made, but I once was outed by a coworker.
Apparently he was one of the assistant instructors at the CCW class I'd taken a couple weeks before - I didn't notice him there because I didn't know him well and hadn't really worked with him at that point. In the lobby of the office, he said something to the extent of "have you gotten your unrestricted pistol permit yet?" to which a couple coworkers commented with things like "He has a handgun but I don't get to have one?"
Being in NY where many people don't realize that self defense is a basic right, I really thought that my employment was going to be in jeopardy as a result.
Luckily, nothing bad came of it - I've gotten to know the coworker better and am in the process of joining his gun club, as I'd been looking for a new one anyway.

Made @ Thanksgiving Dinner

I was made by my neice @ Thanksgiving Dinner. I was cc-ing a LCP in a Fobus Elite ankle holster and forgot while on the couch relaxing after dinner and crossed my leg and the muzzle and holster peeked out from under my pants leg. She said "your gun is showing" and winked @ me.
Note to self.... when crossing your legs place right ankle on top of left knee not vice versa....:banghead:
