Dear THR,
I was just curious to know how many of our fellow members have actually fired a full auto weapon.

Kindly, share experiences.

Thanks

Converted SP-1 Colt AR-15, Smith&Wesson M76 9mm, Cobray MAC-9

FA weapons are overrated, IMO

EDIT: If shootin' on Uncle Sugar's (my tax dollars) dime, well okay.

Yes.
BAR, .30 & .50 Browning MG, M3 Grease Gun, M2 Carbine, M60 MG, AK-47, M14, & M16.

Kansas NG & U.S. Army 1964-1970.

My experience?
With the exception of the BAR, and bi-pod, tri-pod, or pedestal mounted MG's, it ain't all its cracked up to be in the movies if you want to hit at longer ranges.

Yep, grew up around them. My father was an active participant in the MG community for many years and got me into it. We still have a few, but the cost and lack of availability of surplus ammo has put a dent in the amount of shooting we do, especially with the heavy stuff. The subguns still see quite a bit of range time though, just because we can reload easier for them.

M60
M249
M16 A2

I always wanted to try out the .50 Browning but never got a chance.

In all three cases I got to fire them FA in Basic/AIT and then never again. I was in a mortar squad so we didn’t have a M249 or M60. We had enough stuff to lug around as it was.

For personal use it would be fun to have one in 22lr but that’s it. Anything else and I couldn’t afford to shoot it anyway.

In the US Army I fired the following weapons many times and qualified with them.
Fired the .50 Cal Machine gun.
Fired MK 19 fully automatic 40 mm Grenade Launcher.
M 60
M 240
M 249 SAW
M 16 A1
M 16 A2 ( burst )
M 4 Carbine
AK 47
UZI
Colt SMG 9mm
HK MP5 9mm
HK MP5K 9mm
Sten 9 mm

U.S.M.C. ground pounder here. Fired just about everything in the arsenal at the time from the M16a1 up to the M2. During civilian life I have gotten to fire an Uzi and a 1927 Thompson, but nothing really compares to the M2. :)

M16 and M243 in the military

Since returning to civilian life, I've fired MP5s, F/A 10/22, a Browning 1919, a soviet Gorunyev (sp?) and a very large trailer mounted German anti-vehicular weapon of some sort with rounds a bit smaller than the .50BMG (no idea what it was, but it was FUN!)

.50 HB M2, M1917, BAR, M3A1 SMG and M1919A4 on Uncle's dime; M1928A1 Thompson, BAR, M3 SMG, STEN, AR-15, M2 Carbine, StG 44, MG.34, K-Gun, Madsen, MG.42, MP.38, MP.40 and M14 on my own. I owned the TSMG, a BAR, the M3, STEN and M2 carbine.

Several times a day for about 9 months straight...but that is nothing unusual for an American who finds himself in the middle of Afghanistan.

I have rented submachine guns at The Gun Store in Las Vegas, NV and Scottsdale Gun Club in Scottsdale, AZ. My favorite of the ones I've tried is the H&K MP5. It is easy to control in full auto and has rifle-like accuracy in semi. Others were a compensated Thompson (my second favorite), suppressed Cobray, Uzi and Colt M635. I also shot a M16 but don't remember which variant. Although I had a blast doing it, it was a short-lived experience - not only does a magazine, when fired continuously, empty in 2-3 seconds tops, the ammo bill is a killer. :D Mostly, I tried to control it with short bursts of 3-5 rounds. The staff at both ranges supervised me very closely, ready to physically restrain me if I lost control. When I asked why, they pointed to the bullet holes in the ceiling almost directly above the firing position. :uhoh:

No. But I've watched my son do it, including a turret mounted 50 cal. He seemed to like it. ;)

A bunch of them, the most fun I think was a select fire Glock 34.
