know what to do with? Mine is a CZ Model 03 300 WSM. When I bought it there were a couple of reasons why. First it was/is in great condition, very good looking stock. Second its a CZ and I love CZ rifles. Third I was thinking about trying my hand at shooting at long ranges, or for me long ranges, starting at 500 yards and working out to perhaps a 1,000 yards and I figured I might be able to do it with this rifle. My experience with CZs is they are pretty accurate rifles. Then right after I bought it I ended up having to have neck surgery which ended my thoughts of shooting long range. So it's been sitting in the gun safe for the last 3 years just looking pretty. I have thought about selling it or trading it but...hum...I just can't decide whether I want to keep it or sell/trade it. Have any of you guys ever had this problem?

Here is a pic of it...

I have some guns that I simply enjoy owning that I either don't shoot regularly, can't shoot for a variety of reasons (ammo is non-existent, rimfire, unsafe antique ect.) or never plan to shoot. If you like it keep it. If you would rather have that money invested in something with more utility sell it. Maybe you can trade for a similar CZ chambered for a lighter round that you can shoot. Nice rifle by the way. I really like CZ rifles too...

BTDT, sell it. Unlike my wife I didn't promise to love and keep it till death do us part. If It no longer serves a purpose it should go.

I have a Ruger M77 in .338 win mag in the safe behind me. Not sure what I'll ever use it on. Just had to have one. I guess it serves as a place marker insuring I don't want another one.

Maybe I'll draw an elk tag some day but for that I'm more likely to rely on my Savage FCP 10 in .308 .

Over the past few months I've sold two rifles, an action, a barrel and a stock for this very reason. One of the rifles I sold was a custom Remington 700 with a Krieger barrel (.300 Win Mag). I wasn't going to use it after I bought an AI chambered in .300 Win Mag, so as nice as it was and even though it was superbly accurate it had to go. That CZ is nice though!

Got plenty, really, that I don't have any actual use for. Lots of hand-me-downs and guns for hunting. I don't hunt any more, haven't in years now, and even if I did, any ONE would do the job just fine. Every once in a while I get the itch to just sell them off so they don't take up space, but the payoff for a lightly used Rem700 or Marlin 444 is just so low that it really isn't worth the effort to dig them out of the cabinet. Someday maybe the kids will get the itch to shoot critters. We'll be covered.

The mil-surp stuff doesn't serve much more of a purpose, truly. But at least I can shoot matches with the Garand and '03A3, and even do some practical-style shooting with the others. And they've got soul, so that counts for something! :)

So, not a whole lot of use for them, but they don't take up that much space.

Yup. Used to have a few that I didnt know what to do with....ie...had no real use for.

I liquidated them, and put the funds from said liquidation to better use.

I guess you have to decide how well you like this particular rifle. If it doesn't mean that much to you sell it and get another one like it in a less punishing caliber. If you do really like it I say rechamber it.
Good luck on your conundrum!

And btw, thanks for the pic! It's nice to have something to look at other than words all the time:D

Remember, its not how many rifles you own that matters.

It is how many you have owned!! You can only shoot one at a time!!

I don't own any rifles (or pistols) that I don't have any use for. However, I would not be adverse to owning any gun for the beauty, novelty, or historical value of it. Just because I would not have any practical use for one doesn't mean I wouldn't like to keep it for some other reason.

Take your rifle for example...I currently have no practical reason to own such a rifle, because I'm generally a small game/varmit hunter and plinker. A 300 WSM would be so far into the overkill region for a squirrel that I might as well wipe up the vapor deposition left behind with a rag and cook the rag.

BUT...that rifle in your pic sure is a beautiful looking piece of craftmanship and if I found one for a song I'd snatch it up just for that alone.

Besides...I can always use the excuse that I intend to go after larger game some day.

Sold the ones I never used. Don't miss them, because I never used them. Rifle that nice should be getting some use. Trade/sell and get a varmint rifle if that's your thing. That's what I did.

I've got an ultra accurate CZ 453 .22 with a Leupold VX-3 and a CZ 527 in .204. Excellent rifles, and I can use them. I have a friend that has two safes full of guns. He has three elk rifles and only one has ever been shot. He's elk hunted once or twice. 90%+ of the others have never had a round down the barrel. We went on a prairie dog hunt and he's only got one true varmint rifle. Dunno. Makes no sense to me.

I also have a CZ model 3 .300WSM (LH) that hasn't gotten much use...that's mainly because i moved back East and there's nothing in this neck of the woods my Montana M-99 in .243win can't handle.

The Model 3 was not made by CZ; they were made in a limited production run by Montana Rifle Co. using their M-99 action (which is a Win Model 70 with upgrades). IIRC, they needed to produce some amount of product in the US for import/export purposes. Montana Rifle Co. was a fledgling company then and took the job as a sub-contractor of sorts, producing the barreled actions. I believe a company in Kansas made the stocks. I don't know who put them together....but (this is where it gets interesting) when i took mine apart, i found that there was NO BEDDING AT ALL. Just wood stock and metal receiver. A bedding job with Acraglass improved the rifles' accuracy from 2 MOA to .55MOA.

I bought my Model 3 since i love my M99 .243, but could not afford to pay the price bracket Montana Rifle Co. moved into when their product took off.

I'll also add that already owning a Win M70 Featherweight 300WSM, i found the stock on the Model 3 to really kick hard; and when CDNN had a sale, i bought a New Haven factory surplus stock for 60$ and yet again really improved the feel of the rifle.

I know that doesn't answer your question; but i've pointed out that there may be untapped potential in your rifle...and for your shoulder, because changing the stock really toned down the recoil. If you do decide to sell it, it is essentially a $2,000 rifle from Montana Rifle Co. that, due to lack of marketing and buyer-knowledge, is commonly found in the $6-800 dollar range. You might do better, financially speaking, finding a buyer looking for a Montana than a buyer looking for a short-lived "discontinued" CZ model.

Shooting 500 yards shouldn't be out of your wheel house even with a neck injury. You can even reach 1000 yards with a .223. It takes more practice and more skill of course but people do it all the time. And with the right .223 you will feel almost no kick at all. I have an 11.5 lb Savage LRPV and that's the weight without a scope. It's a .223. It feels like a .22 when I shoot it. It might be a little more powerful than that I guess but it doesn't hurt my neck like my 30.06 does. I still shoot the 30.06 a good bit but not like I did when I first got it. I just want to stay proficient with it for the local bear population. I had a shot at one but I had no reason to actually shoot that bear. I have had some issues with them killing my pets though. If that were to become a big problem a bear might feel the sting of a 220 gr. Core-Lokt.

I'd trade the CZ for something I could shoot a lot. I have rifles I rarely shoot at all but if I wanted to develop my skills at longer distances I'd find a way. I did find a way I guess. I don't shoot 1000 yards but that's only because there's no where to do it close to where I live. But 500 yards is pretty easy with a .223. Same goes for a .22-250, a .243, and a 25.06. I'm sure there are others but these are the ones I've actually shot.

I have a Winchester Model 70 chambered in 270. I have a BAR chambered in 30/06 that has pushed the Model 70 to the side. I can't bring myself to sell the Model 70 because I know I can't replace it. Yes, I know Winchester still makes the Model 70 but they are not as nice as the Model 70 made 40 years ago. One good thing about guns you don't need but won't sell is you don't have to feed them.

You will get over the neck injury. A horse fell on me. The fall cracked one vertebrae in my neck and cracked 2 in my lower back. I was in a body cast for six weeks. Then I went through a couple months of therapy. Once I was strong enough to be sure on my feet I quit going to the physical therapist and the doctor. I went back to the racetrack and started training horses again. Sometimes I still wake up stiff as hell. I just walk it off and go on with my day. Once you feel you don't need a doctors care anymore get a dog for a walking companion and walk yourself healthy. You might not need to sell the 300 mag.

yep I got one of those rifles, it's an MAS36. I bought it simply because it was the first one I'd ever seen in person and even though it's a great rifle with a great action I just never have liked it. been trying to sell it along with all my ammo and reloading dies for months... no takers.

Yes, a Swiss K31 which i barely shoot once a year.

But when i took it ouf of the safe for periodic cleaning i couldn´t give it away any more.

Unless the gun has some sort of collector value why keep it when you can't shoot it? I guess the only other reason would be to pass on but i personally wouldn't care about passing on a rifle that i had no attachment to.

Over the years I have had several that I had no real use for.... And still have a few laying around... They make good trading stock for future trades.

For example, if you lived nearby I would take a few over to your house and start talking trades on your 300 WSM CZ...
