Have You Ordered a CMP M1 Lately

I took the new M1 to the range today after putting a few patches down the bore. Crashed and burned. The first shot at 50 yards missed the big target. The casing did not eject. Second shot at 25 yards printed 6" low on a paper plate. Also no eject of the brass. Cranked the "UP" to 10 and shot the big target at 50 yards again and failed to put a hole in it and the rifle did not eject.
Something told me to go home.
I'm shooting FNB 1980 ammo that functions just fine in my other M1. This ammo was made for the M1 Garand.

The only problem I found was that the op=rod is not straight.
I need 3 hands to hold the square and take a picture, but the wife helped, MVC-007L.JPG MVC-009L.JPG MVC-010L.JPG
CMP has told me to return the op rod and the gas tube for checking. I hope this will clear up the problem.
I also noticed that the bolt would not go home by itself after inserting ammo or by just pushing down on the mag follower. I always had to give the bolt a push.
How much of a bend can the op rod take and still operate correctly? This rod shows wear on the top of the bend and it did not get there by my firing 3 rounds.
I just might take the good op rod out of my other rM1 and do a swap.
Stay tuned.

A Garand op rod is supposed to have a dog leg in it. Otherwise it would rub the barrel at the receiver. Like you said, it is hard to hold and take pictures, but here is mine: 20190819_211003.jpg 20190819_210950.jpg 20190819_210935.jpg 20190819_210841.jpg 20190819_210834.jpg

Badkarma! you got me shook up with those pictures. I went and educated myself on You-Tube about OP-Rods and their quirks. Apparently your rod has more noticable bends than mine and the You Tube story confirms the bends. My piston head is .524 to .525" with calipers and that is pretty good. Overall very little wear.
I put the gun back together and gave it a careful inspection making sure it was lubricated properly. I also took a different ammo with me. I have a can of DAC 51 (Canadian Dominion Cartridge) AP rounds. The Canadian stuff operates the gun just fine even tho it's 30 years older than the Farbrique National stuff I was using the day before. Boy do I feel dumB! I also tried shooting the FN stuff and most of it fired just fine today. This new gun must be just a little tighter than my other M1 which digests the FN stuff without a problem.
I wrote a letter of apology to the guy at CMP Armory and he was very understanding.
Without your pictures BadKarmam1b, I would have really screwed the pooch on this one. Thanks

Glad all is well! It could have been a lack of enough lube in one spot, or something in a bit of a bind, that got corrected during the last reassembly. But all's well that ends well, and enjoy her, she's a beauty!
