Have You Pulled Your Gun On Someone?

Not me, but a close pal with some zany looking eyes stopped a home burglary in process. The perp had his big cabinet 19" TV which weighed about 30 lbs. My pal pointed his 357, did his crazy eye thing, then told the perp if he set the TV down he'd be shot. The perp held the TV until the cops arrived, all the time cursing, complaining about his fingers and begging to put the heavy TV down. When the cops finally arrived about 40 minutes later the perp actually thanked the cops for coming.

:D

Best post yet.

For a civilian, pulling a gun on someone is normally an unlawful act; it is, of course, permissible under certain circumstances. Whether a particular circumstance meets the thresholds of justifiability depends on the particulars, but whether it will be judged to have met said threshold will depend upon evidence and testimony, some of which may be contradictory, or perhaps impossible to gather after the fact.

Unless it is crystal clear that the assumption of justification was incontrovertible, it is best to not air the details in a public forum for later scrutiny. There is not only risk related to the incident at hand (unless the statute of limitations has expired), but there are also potential risks regarding indications of state of mind should a poster become involved in an ambiguous situation in the future.

It has been said here many times before, but the best thing to do after producing a weapon is to report the incident to law enforcement immediately. Otherwise, should the other party report the incident first, they will likely have the upper hand in terms of credibility.
