Have You Pulled Your Gun On Someone?

I didn't pull my gun but I have put my hand on the gun ready to draw. I had a guy ask me for money and then got hostile and tried to block me from my car when I refused. When I told him to get back another guy came out of the store and told me he was going to mess me up for messing with his uncle if I remember correctly. One kept making gestures with his hand like he was going to shoot me even though he appeared unarmed. When the younger of the two moved in I put my hand on my gun and told him to get back. He stopped in his tracks, him and his uncle got in their car and they took off.

Since having my CCW permit, I HAVE NOT drawn on any humans, but I HAVE drawn on potentially aggressive animals, including the following:

While hiking with my pregnant wife on North Table Mountain by Golden, CO, we came across a very horny buck who was upset about us disturbing his harem. I drew my S&W Model 60 loaded with Speer Lawman .38 +P 158 gr TMJs with one hand, pick-up a large rock with the other and started yelling. Luckily, tossing the rock and the yelling prevented any further escalation.

My friend, my wife and myself we getting ready to shoot some pistols at his cabin south of Conifer, CO. We were messing with range bags, targets and tape when a large buck came out of the trees next to us with his tongue hanging out and a listless stare. Knowing that the area is ripe for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), I drew my NAA Guardian. 32 ACP loaded with Hornady 60 gr XTPs and covered my buddy who was loading his 329PD as fast as possible. The deer just wandered down range and out of sight. I have never seen a deer act like that in over 30 years of Colorado living.

Taking an old potted plant out on my parent's porch in the foothills just west of Boulder, CO at dusk, I heard movement and saw something tan coming down the hillside towards me. Having spent my adolescence dealing with mountain lions at the same house, my thought was to draw before even confirming the target. Turned out I ended up pointing my Guardian at a friendly, tail-wagging neighborhood Pit Bull who was visiting my parents property. A few yells and she ran off, but I am not real excited about having them around.

I agree with Deanimator. The last thing you want to do is have someone at gunpoint when LE shows up. You WANT the BG to run. Much safer for you as the defender. Let LE run down the criminal in the street or where ever.

he walked backwards far enough where he was no longer a threat, turn, and ran across 8 lanes of city hwy traffic, and never looked right or left to see if any cars were coming. he just ran. its a miracle he didn't get plastered right there in front of us.

The only time someone took a swing at mugging me was in the Loop (downtown Chicago) and I was about 16, taking some classes down there on summer break.
I was grabbed from behind, the thug started to demand my wallet, and I reacted on pure autopilot - shoving him into Chicago downtown traffic. Now I'm no weakling, and back then I lifted weights a lot, and even though I weighed a bit less there was plenty of mass to anchor a good push on an unsuspecting thug who couldn't have weighed 125#.

My guy made it through traffic as well, ended up on the other side somehow. I was so impressed that I was tempted to applaud his jig through the moving cars ... but instead I vacated the area rapidly & calmly ... and stopped wandering around alone on my lunch hour.
I'm not saying I would have shed a tear if he had been pancaked, there was something pointy in my back and he asked for my wallet quite rudely. But the dance through moving cars was most impressive.

"Pulled a gun on someone?"
Well, yes, kinda.
Years ago, I was driving home from the range after an afternoon of "Burning coal" with some of my BP rigs. I was traveling through an old commercial/residential part of town when I noticed an old beater car with a couple of scruffy guys in it riding my rear bumper. They pulled around me and braked, stopping me in the street.
The driver jumped from his car and was quick stepping towards me when I pulled my Walker from its holster on the front seat and with it still in hand, cocked my head sideways, smiled at him, and laid it up on the dash in front of me.

The dirtbag spotted the Walker, stopped, and his eyes got this big! :what:

I'm not sure, but he stopped, turned, and ran for his car so fast, that I think he might have jumped right out of his shoes.

The whole thing happened so fast that I was in A kind of "Did that really just happen?" shock. I sat there in the car for a few minutes and just began laughing out loud about the look on that guys face.
I don't want to think about what those guys original plan with me was.

When I carry, It's not for show, I never want to need it, but, if I do I want it to be a surprise.

Once recently, and it didn't matter. Stopped late at night while traveling with my wife and kids (potty break). We were all back in the Tahoe getting situated when I see I've been blocked by a car behind me. Scruffy older guy comes around my wifes side, walks around the front of the Tahoe. Locks were already engaged. I started the engine and put it in reverse but held in place with the brake. Scruffy starts "tapping" the window agressively demanding money. I took the gun out of the holster and was debating on laying on the horn - but was out of hands. I kept watching at Scruffy telling him to move on. Suddenly he gets a funny look on his face, runs to the beater car and they take off. The whole time my wife is nervously repeating my name as if I should do something. I look back to her and tell her "That worked out well for everyone." Then start laughing because 3 spots down a patrol car had just pulled up. I hadn't thought the guy had seen my weapon but figured he had guessed. Nope - he seen the patrol car! So it never really mattered. It really was funny.

Twice.
Once on the highway when the guy would not let me de-escalate and pursued me. When he started acting like he was going to ram my car I rolled the window down and showed him it was a bad idea on his part. He left me alone.

The first time I was 14. I was working alone doing maintenance as a summer job. Bad part of town. The house was locked but this guy jimmied a window and tried to sneak up on me. I pulled a little .380 and (knees literally shaking) yelled several expletives and told him to leave. He hit the front door at a dead run. I was worried there might be retribution, but I learned over the next year or so that he was the sneakiest guy in the neighborhood. He told everyone else that he couldn't sneak up on me and had almost been killed. No one around there ever tried anything again. I was very fortunate.

I did something similar except I held a cell phone up to my ear. Not overly macho, but it worked just as well.

yes, twice.

first was when a "corrections officer" lost it in traffic and pulled a gun on myself, my wife, and my niece, he went to jail. still is there.

other time was getting gas late at night on payday. younger kid walks up and pulls a knife. i drew my .357 snubbie and he ran, i thanked him for the new benchmade knife i got.

damn he left with less than he came with? sucks for him

I had a trifecta of 20 something basement dwellers pull up at a rest stop in North Carolina. I'm always weary when someone pulls up right beside my vehicle when the remainder of the parking lot is empty. Anyhow, my better half was picking up some travel information and a Pepsi when two of these guys walked over to my car near my daughter's car door. Katelynn was safely strapped into her car seat, and the back doors of the car are always locked. I initially thought they were heading to use the facilities, but they split and went around both sides of my car. I was standing outside of my car, getting some fresh air and looking over the car, since we had hit part of a "re-cap" that flew off of a truck.

Long story short, I pulled my gun and told them to get the F away from my car. When the third tried to sneak around their van, I nearly shot him. I had all three of them lay on the sidewalk, and I threw their keys deep in the woods. I called in the license plate, explained what happened, and waited until the cops arrived. All three were arrested on criminal mischief and menacing charges.

No guns, but once at a gas station in florida a fellow was appearing to follow me, and I pulled out my Kershaw Blackout and walked past him, never had to open it...
and I forgot which state it was some shady guy in a car parked next to my moms, asked to sell me dope when I got out, and I groped my pocket, and found either my old spyderco, or kershaw, but I never opened it..
I was 13 when these events happened, and they were during the same trip, one going there, one coming home..
I'm 14 now, and I never go anywhere except school without a knife, and I usually carry a surefire G2 now, and a quick blinder beam will detur someone aswell..
I guess I've been lucky..

n a Mcdonald's bath room. Two guys followed me in. as soon as the door closed they said they wanted my money or they would kick my a**. When I pulled my glock they said they were just kidding and left rather quickly.

When a bunch of drunken 'friends' decided it was funny to start pounding on my door at 0 dark 30 and try to spook me.

Nearly ended bad for them.

No, my mouth is more dangerous apparently. Dangerous enough to make three "crips" turn around and leave in their own neighborhood. Its funny how offended some people can get by someone wearing a red shirt. Best part is, my words were nonviolent, something along the lines of "I respect you for having the cajones to come up to me and tell me you don't want me wearing a certain color, and I invite you to try to take this shirt off me." I hope they learned something that day. Hopefully they used whatever money, if any, they had put together and took some classes at their local community college.

I bet researcher Gary Kleck is right, there are thousands of times when the mere presence of a firearm deters crime without firing a shot.

Indeed he is.

As a cop, I responded to dozens of calls where a homeowner or business owner chased away a potential burglar/robber/trespasser with a firearm, and called in to let the police know. If no crime actually occurred, and the individual couldn't be located, there was no report taken. And that's just the instances where they called in. I suspect there were many, many, more where they don't.

Road rage.

My close call:

I was coming through the mountains of Chattanooga a couple years back with the wife and kids from a vacation. A guy became very upset because my wife wasn't going as fast as he would've liked (we were doing the speed limit + maybe 5mph) and traffic prevented him from getting around me.

He started doing dangerous stuff like trying to pass repeatedly when there wasn't enough room as cars filled both lanes, forcing my wife to move dangerously close to the edge of the road. Mind you, these are not really shoulders, they are sheer drops and mountainsides. I had kids in the car and was in the process of loading my 12 gauge when finally traffic broke up enough for him to speed off.

I realized that day I would kill without hesitation anyone who puts my family in danger without regard to the consequences. Any resulting jail term is worth the lives of my wife and kids, though I am extremely thankful it has never had to come to that.

I know this is a " have you ever" thread, but I, in nearly 20 yrs of CCing, have never even had to put my hand on my gun ( in fear ).

Either I'm incredibly boring or I'm incredibly lucky?
