Just was reading this article on Hawaii Reporter (a conservative Hawaii publication), about the Hawaii House of Representatives commending Duane "Dog" Chapman the bounty hunter for his work.

Why do they have to bring attention to the fact that he doesn't use a gun, as part of his commendation? I think it's disturbing that the Hawaii House of Representatives makes mention that Dog doesn't use a gun in doing his work, like that's a good thing. No wonder Hawaii has such horrible gun control laws and getting a CCW permit in Hawaii is impossible. Hawaii law makers still think guns are bad.

Isn't the true fact for why Dog doesn't carry a gun because he was a convicted felon?

Yes, thats true. He is actually a convicted murderer (someone he was with commited a murder, when they were both party to a crime, i beleive armed robbery) but I think that was back in the 1970s. Stupid as hell what the Mexican goverment is doing..."depriving of liberty" of a CONVICTED RAPIST. He should be getting a medal.

Convicted felons cannot own or possess firearms

Kinda forgot that aspect of his brave crusade against crime didn't they?
He seems to travel with quite the possee of relatives. Is it known if any of them carry?

Ummm....I'm sure that "firm belief" may be based on his being a convicted felon.

If he carries he goes back to jail.

What a load of drivel...

Duane "Dog" Chapman is a convicted felon, In 1977, Chapman was convicted of murder, he's also been convicted of armed robbery (18 times),

Because of his felonious past he cannot legally carry any modern firearm as with all other convicted felons.

I wonder if Mr. Chapmann knows that he isn't prohibited from owning black powder weapons?

The Colt Walker is a heck of a gun.

Well regardless of mr dogs recent valor granted by the Republic of Hawaii, It was still neat how he went down to MX a few years ago and dragged the scumbag convicted rapist back with him...

I give the guy credit for turning his life around and contributing to society. He easily could have stayed on that road to nowhere. When he talks to the guys he taking down and warns them of where they are headed, he speaks from experience.

Re:Dog Chapman

That's right, Chapman is a convicted felon. Don't know how many other states allow bounty hunters to be convicted felons, but Virginia (last time I looked) forbids that kind of thing.

I certainly don't want to take anything away from Dog. I think it's great that he's turned his life around and is doing good work getting the bad guys off the streets, and really cares about the people he captures and wants to help them also turn their lives around. I think that's all excellent stuff, and you can tell the guy really has a soft-side for everyone.

But the complaint I have is with the Hawaii House of Representatives incorrectly stating why Duane doesn't carry a gun (because he was a convicted felon) and commending him for not carrying a gun. Many Hawaii citizens own guns, and hunting is a big tradition in Hawaii. The gov't of Hawaii shouldn't be making subtle anti-gun commentary. That's my beef -- with the Hawaii legislature commendation, not with Duane.

Yeah, it's pretty amazing that a convicted murderer can get licensed to be a bounty hunter in HI. He probably wishes he could carry a gun, but he can't because he's a MURDERER. I wonder what the murder weapon was.

While it is good that he is doing something positive with his life, he doesn't deserve an commendation for not carrying a gun.

People do not deserve commendation for things when they have no ability to do otherwise. It's like giving me a commendation for having blue eyes. As soon as he took the road of a violent felon, he lost the ability to make that choice.

Make no mistake about it, this is only an anti-gun publicity stunt.

I watch the show sometimes with my wife. Dog's wife DOES carry a gun. I guess she isn't all that convinced that "Bear Pepper Spray" is the way to go.

And incidently, I imagine he DOESN'T worry too much about carrying a gun when his wife and others in his crew ARE carrying and have his back.

To me, accepting this "commendation" is hypocrisy at its finest.

I think Dog is another example of why there should be NO restrictions on gun ownership. He has truely reformed. He has turned his life around. But because he has a felony in his past he can't arm himself, at least without breaking the law. Do you think a convicted felon, who's not reformed, and bent on continuing to commit crimes won't carry? Of course he'll carry. The laws, even against so-called felons, are useless. Even those only hurt good people.

Has she been shown on camera with a gun? I watch the show all the time and have not seen any of them carry. (Though I can't say I've looked since I know Dog can't/won't carry)
Beth is scary enough without a gun. Thats a whole lotta mean woman, and if you survive her, Dog would finish you off.

Chris,

I have to make full disclosure on this one. My wife is the one that watches that show regularly. *She* tells me that there was a reference to her having a gun on one show, but I don't think she has been seen on air with one. Frankly, I can't collaberate what Jen says, but she is insistent that it was referred to once.

So, take my statement for what it's worth.

Whatever happened to that small town North Carolina sheriff who refused to carry a gun and let his deputy carry only one bullet in his front shirt pocket?

What was his name? Tyler? Taylor? Teller? Something like that.

I think he realized that there wasn't enough money in Law Enforcement. The last time I saw him, he was a highly paid and reputable old-style country lawyer. Oh... he changed his name to Matlock.

:D

John

OK. They may have been referring to a pepper gun. A while back they got what are basically paintball markers that shoot pepper balls.
