Jack Hanna of wildlife show fame was on Good Morning America talking about the Tiger that mauled Roy Horn of Ziegfried and Roy.

He goes on to talk about the Tiger being kept in the NY apartment that eventually attacked his owner.

Jack Hanna finishes with this comment:

"Keeping a wild tiger in an apartment is just like keeping a loaded gun, eventually they are going to go off and hurt someone"

Ridiculous off hand comments like this are repeated and perpetuated through mass media and urban legends daily.

Last time I checked guns were not 600 Lb wild animals with brains, instincts, razor sharp claws and teeth.

I will no longer be buying Jack Hanna books or videos for my kids

Here is Jack Hanna holding a loaded gun:

Yes, those wild guns are a real menace, aren't they? Running around, maiming people all by themselves . . .

This is part of an unfortunate trend of people blaming inanimate objects for the actions of irresponsible people. Ridiculous.

after watching Jack for years, i can say with some authority that he is a tad goofy

a better statement might be:

"Keeping a wild tiger in an apartment is just like keeping a loaded gun in a room full of monkeys, eventually it is going to go off and hurt someone"

Ole Jack is not sharp enough to spin a good analogy

LOL!

I concur. I think he should stay away from chimps, as he's likely to be outsmarted and upstaged.

Okay, this guy makes his living handling dangerous animals that can lash out on their own in an instant, yet he doesn't like guns? Guns are pretty simple devices that can be handled safely by just about anyone. Doesn't make sense.

Well...he may be right. My little cat has been known to go crazy on occasion for no apparent reason. Its just a coincidence that I step on his tail just before it happens.:D

Everybody knows that guns can pull their own triggers, thats a design function.

Isn't it?

Oops...there goes the cat again.

I guess if you had loaded guns laying on the floor and you let your Bengal
tiger pets chew on them there could be a problem.

If not, Hanna needs to stick to animals and leave the guns to us.

I'm shocked--SHOCKED--that an anti-gun comment could eminate from the good people at ABC on a morning show based in Times Square, NYC.

[sarcasm OFF]

Standing Wolf-LOL

I guess this is why you can never trust a wild gun. It could revert back to its murderous instincts at any time.

Just because you can lead a mixed metaphor to water doesn't mean you can make it take off like a rocket, I guess.
Man, oh man. Now I have to pay a professional to clean my screen. Yer gonna haf ta pay fer that, ya know!

If ol' Jack was a tack, you couldn't pound him into a sponge with a hammer. This guy is so ignorant -- and I mean about ANIMALS; which is supposed to be his forte -- he couldn't pour water out of a boot if the instructions were printed on the heel.

When he comes on the TV we immediately change the channel because he is so hard to watch with his gaffes and idiocy. His lame attempts at humor are not the least bit funny.

It's a wonder he hasn't been seriously mauled in the course of his career. He is so unknowledgeable about animals, and what not to do in their presence that sets them off, he has been likely the most animal attacked person in America.

No wonder they have him in the queue for most talk shows.
His mishandling of animals always guarantees comic relief.
